LOL LOL how much does oled cost way more then tn and yes my acer is p-mva i think both are good please don't compare oled and ips to tn thats loco

for gaming = tn panel or p-mva

for graphic design = ips panel or oled

as for the samsung not even being 800.1 are u serous the native is 1000.1 and dynamic is 3000.1

that acer cost me £400 to u maybethats cheap not for me lol

I am pretty sure that my NEC 20WGX2 Pro whit S-IPS panel is better for gaming then TN and/or P-MVA panel....

You mean AS-IPS panel, basically the best of the best. :P

I have a Acer AL1916W and frankly the color contrast is almost painful at points..I'm not sure if this is a TN or not, but if it is then the viewing angles have greatly increased, I can even stand almost directly over it and read things on the screen sometimes (granted poorly, but I can do it).

So while I certainly wouldn't mind a different panel its been serving me well enough for the past six months.

I have to agree with the OP. I recently "upgraded" from an old Samsung 172t (PVA) to a Samsung 226BW (TN). Aside from being much larger and having a better response time, the 226BW looks like absolute crap compared to the 172t. I'm no professional, but I can tell that the color is way off, there's horrid light bleedthrough (even in the middle of the screen), the black levels are terrible, the colors seem to change dramatically with the verticalviewing angle. It seems like if I sit too high or low in my chair, the colors are way off, and they even change justas I movemy eyes up and down on the screen. Like I said, I'm no professional. I don't do graphics work, and I don't even know much about the LCD technologies. But the poor quality isvery noticable tome.TN panels are crap. They're cheap, but you get what you pay for. I actually came close to returning the 226BW, but unfortunately the box got thrown out by mistake, so now I'm stuck with it.

I wish I had a good answer for you, I believe the Apple cinema displays are still a pretty safe bet, though I would check AVS and HardOCP before buying, since I haven't full researched them, Dell is doing the "panel lottery", which is lame. MVA / PVA actually has some issues with response times and black crush versus IPS, so, if you're spending that kind of money, you should have a guarantee you're getting what you pay for.

I don't have an answer, I've been searching for a while myself, and it's just not there. In the reasonable price range, finding an LCD with a decent picture quality is becomming harder, not easier, as manufacturers continue to push TN into larger panel sizes.

My hopes currently lie with OLED, it's the most promising technology on the market, as it is the only one that will someday cost less than TN-panels to manufacture. OLED also offers amazing color, contrast, and response time... so... I wish I had an answer for you, but right now we're at the mercy of manufacturers who are selling to the blind masses.

It's difficult to understand what is going on with the monitor industry. As time goes by the screen quality keeps decreasing. That must be a first, we usually expect quality, speed, etc to increase as time goes by especially in the "high-tech" sector. What I mean is if you bought a 21" monitor in 1997, CRT in this case, you would be having a better image quality and gaming experience than if you bought the monitor in 2005, with an S-IPS panel, which in turn is better than monitors sold at the end of 2007 with TN panels.

As it stands TN has already taken over the market from 22" down and is now moving in on the 24". VA has been pushed over to 27" and 30". And S-IPS is being phased out.

The 3007 is set to be the last S-IPS panels from Dell, to be replaced by VA in the 08 version. LG, the main producer of S-IPS panels, has stopped using them in their own monitors. None of the current models on the LG website use a S-IPS panel. NEC and have replaced anything smaller than 24" with TN panels as well.

Obviously gamers might be a small segment of the market compared to corporate purchases, and I understand that office workers do not need details in shadows, true colors, and do not care about input lag and ghosting. But surely there are enough of us to warrant a couple of gaming monitors from leading manufacturers. Or not.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 226cw. The thing I don't like about it is the thing least people complain about. I see people talk about the color variation from top to bottom, but when my whole screen is gray, the top goes totally black. When playing games that has dark environment, It's like something's covering the top of my eyes. Is the variation on my screen greater than others? I just think it's weird that no one else talk about this. That TN-panels can't display the best colors doesn't really matter to me, but the top screen going black? That's simply enoying.
