[QUOTE="Mithrandir0x"]Well, aren't you all a bit too harsh with the first impresions? It's only a beta, changes will happen; however the actual style isn't pretty bad, although I also believe it's a bit shiny when it should be more gloomy and dark (only the Terrans). And also, none of us haven't seen yet Zerg infected terrain, and even Zerg structures.
Give'em a breath of air, and be patient.

Actually, it's alpha.
Just for reference, this is what Starcraft looked like in Alpha
Â
The sad thing is that the TC probably would have liked it that way, due to the lack of color......Â
[QUOTE="mikemil828"]You are asking for them to fix something that isn't broke. Major deviations of the formula are best used in new IPs, that's why Relic made Company of Heroes instead of completely changing their Warhammer series, current series should improve on what made them great in the first place.BlackAlpha666
Not exactly. COH is much different from DOW.
Precisely, that's why a total revamp like you seem to want won't work.Â
Â
All of the portraits for the different Protoss units look the same. I hope they change that later to provide variety.
-Also, the new units look kinda lame. Theres an alien style walker that doesnt even belong in Starcraft, a giant floaty overpowered mothership, and zerglings acting as infested terrans. I want most of my old units from starcraft 1 back.

Err, that's kinda a no brainer, seeing that the robot controlled collosus has a protoss face. And where the heck did you see infested terrans? :|
oh /cry!

Perhaps it can be attributed to you clowns that 90 percent of our next gen games are brown and devoid of color.
Â
I for one, think the art style of the game is perfect for what it is.
Â
Want the game to look different? Does the color make your eyes bleed to the point where it will keep you from enjoying Starcraft 2? Then don't buy it. It's as simple as that. Or you could, you know, turn your gamma and color settings down on your monitor, same effect.

it is not a point of whether a person is going to buy it or not ...
it is whether blizzard does justice to the starcraft legacy!Â
Im sorry I just dont see the issue here. You people see terrain that takes place on a lush and green environment and you see terran marines with red armor and you say there is too much color? WTF?
The game has nearly the same artistic flare the first game did, I just dont see why you guys are arguing about this.
Yeah, I agree with the other people in saying that the graphics are wayy too cartoony. And to be frank, the graphics aren't that good. Most of the buildings and units look similarly supersized. Technically, the graphics look dated like something from 2003. In fact, I think it looks worse than Warcraft III! Modern day RTS like C&C 3, and Supreme Commander have superior graphics. C&C 3 has very nice and realistic lighting, shadow, etc. effects while SupCom handles scaling very well.
My hope is that the StarCraft II images are screenshots of a pre-alpha build of the game. The very early game shots of Supreme Commander looked pretty cartoony as well.Â
Here's how an modern day RTS should look like:
Â
Â
Â
The first 2 are from C&C 3, the second 2 are from SupCom. Here's what Starcraft looks in comparison (WAY too cartoony):
Â
Â
It might be an early build, but I'm sure most people will agree after seeing the other screenshots of other RTS, that Starcraft II looks so far, not at all next-gen like.

who said SC2 is a next-gen game? next-gen to other companies = eye candy, but to Blizzard is the superior gameplay and story
Blizzard games such as Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft have never had to depend on pretty graphics to push the sale. Blizzard is probably the only company left that can do that.
Oh, I know, they can add a brown filter to the screen and make every character wear shades of black on their armor. It'll be all bloody and people will swear and bleed all over the place for no reason because that's obviously what makes a good game, right?
That was sarcasm, just pointing that out for those who agree because you know what? That ISN'T what makes a game and I'm damn happy this rts doesn't look like every other one coming out right now. Besides, Relic's Warhammer is 'cartoony' and yet anyone who's played that game can tell you it's dead serious. It's just a stylistic approach to otherwise unremarkable graphics, not to mention not even in Alpha stages of development yet so still subject to massive changes.
I have to say that Starcraft 2 looks too cartoony and the graphics don't fit in with the sci-fi atmosphere of starcraft. It looks like another Warcraft RTS game to me. I wish that it would look more realistic, like Company of Heroes... Imagine CoH with cartoony graphics. It would loose its war-like atmosphere and end up looking like a sponge bob square pants game. Anyways, that's just my opinion and I don't care about the graphics as much as the game play + story line.
To the guy who posted images above:
- People don't play CnC3 with that camera angle, that angel is for taking screenshots only.
- Same for SupCom, the in-play screenshots look nowhere as good as the one you linked.
- SupCom doesn't look that good to begin with, and is/was horribly optimized.
I think it looks really good so far, my only gripe is the Siege Tank model.Â
The Protoss look way to strong and cheap as ever. (Nothing to do with graphics or color, LOL!)Â
Really, its not all about the colors or graphics. Its how the game plays! I cant wait for this game to come out!

I dunno what you guys were expecting. All craft games look colorfull and cartoony, very much in contrast with the gritty looking rendered sequences.
Also technically Blizzard has always been years behind the competition. They clearly concentrate on gameplay and style that made them succesfull in the first place. Their first 3D game came out in 2002, 5 years after eveyone already made the move to 3D and even then the graphics in WoW and WC3 look simplistic.

W3 was the first game if I remember right that moved to 3D RTS......so they havent always been behind. but they arent about graphics but about gameplay...and that is VERY good to know!:D

Ehm, Total Annihilation was in 3D and came out before the first Starcraft. 3D RTS games were already standard for many years when WC3 came out.
Well maybe you didnt see the complete Demo that I did, but the Mothership has some very cheap and crazy powerful abiliteis. First off the Black HOLE ability is way cheap, its Time Bomb sheild just looks really cool and cheap, and if thats not enough it has a crazy ground attack called the Planet Kracker! Your right, that looks real fair. The Blizzard demo did have the Mothership receving extra energy and life for the demo though to show off everything at once, and they did say u only get 1 at at time. It should be intresting to see what or if any super units make it to the Terran and Zerg....
And after watching this demo again for the 10th time today lol, this game is going to kick a whole lot of A$$!!!!!!!!
Im calling it now, it will win the Academy award for Greatest Color ever utilizied in a game.Â

You said it, and even we haven't seen anything, like heroes in the game, and if they will level-up like in Warcraft 3, not even units at all. This was only a sheer sneak-peek, and a enormous and loving zergling rush... We cannot even say if it's balanced or how many damage is doing X unit because a bunch of videos were scripted.
And also, like met says, blizzard is not so naive. They have been programming RTS games for a loooong time, they know what they're doing.
I just LOOVE StarCraft. But in SC2 those Terran BattleCruisers look too f**** small and they don't look seriuous. And all who played SC1 knows what type of unit BC is ;)

Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft all had different style of graphics. If we compare Diablo games with WC games, we would see a big difference. I'm surprised that SC2 doesn't have its own style of graphics. Blizzard has been focusing on Warcraft games for a long time and I just don't want to see anymore of it, including similarities in other games. As I said before, the graphics don't fit in with the sci-fi genre. It was fine with fantasy games, such as warcraft, but starcraft... no way. I'm sure that most Warcraft fans would love it, but I don't, because I never really liked WC.
I totally agree, that's the 1st thing I thought when I saw the 1st gameplay video. The landscape looks decent, but the units are way way too cartoony and colourful (the terrans, especially).
Starcratft 1 wasn't like that, you can bet on it..only take a look at the old and new terran battlecruiser (I hope the name is correct, Ialways played the localized version)..
I really hope they'll fix it..
If you can't accept change or enjoy it, then whats the point. I never understand why people want new things but never want them to change, just be the past for the future. Its like they can never accept it. I personally will be there day 1 for StarCraft 2 with my new Pc just for it to enjoy its single player and then its battle.net. And ill be doing the same for Diablo 3. I play games for gaming, not to complain and nitpick, If i wanted to do that, i would get one of those stupid cell phones that can text and email and sit in a corner all day complaining to the world bout stuff not worth complaining about.
P.S. if you don't like it stick to StarCraft 1 its not like its gonna die anytime soon. One of the greatest games ever i still play weekly. You don't see to many warcraft players still playing Warcraft Orcs and Humans cause who the hell wants to build roads in a rts to travel that takes forever...then again that was 1993.
