right now i have 8gb, but i want to get more just because i'm weird and don't like the slots being empty and with the price of ram it's worth it to sooth my weirdness... usually it seems more is better for computers, but i have seen people mention having too much can be bad. is this true? why/how?

8 GB is enough memory for gaming, the only reason I would see too much memory being bad is it can make overclocking your CPU more difficult.

this and that the returns stop being felt after 10gb.. even windows cant think of wtf to do with 12gb ram. the only things that need that much are ftp or mail servers and photoshop

It's only bad for your wallet, that's about the only way Johnf111 could relate lots of RAM with the word "bad"

That may be the case when overclocking via the FSB, but I'm not sure if that would apply when overclocking via the multiplier (which is pretty much the only method used with every modern processor nowadays).

Since more sticks put more stress on the motherboard and memory controller it can cause a 1 - 2 fps drop, but you're unlikely to notice anything.

I have 16GB and overclock via multiplier. I don't touch the FSB. No need to. So yeah, what you said.
