The only requirement i ask is to NOT mention any Valve/Blizzard games (they are obviouse choiced, and I already own most of them).
I may be getting a new PC in the near future, and I want to know what you guys think should be the first 10 I buy.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
For strategy: Shogun 2
Shooter: Battlefield Bad Company 2
RPG: The Witcher, Dragon Age Origins, ME 1 + 2(unless you own them on consoles)
Action/Adventure/Horror: Amnesia: Dark Descent, Batman: AA(unless you own on console)
That's about all I got.
By the time you have your PC?
FPS: The Stalker series, Crysis 1
RPG: the witcher 1 and 2, NWN2 (complete pack)
RTS: Compnay of heroes, Total war (Shogun 2being the better one in my mind)
Horror: Amnesia the dark descent
Honerbly mentions: Vampire the masquerade Bloodlines, Deus ex, Killing Floor, Red orchestra, Fallout 3,Fallout: NV, BF:BC2 BF2 (or wait for 3), FEAR 1, Doom 3, ArmA 2, Civ 4 -5,
Hmm. Top 10 non valve/blizzard games that should be bought eh?
I guess it largely depends on what genres you like most but since its fairly open i'll just throw in games that I liked in no order:
1. Dawn of War 2 Retriubtion. If you have never owned a previous Dawn of War 2 game, This packs extremely good value for an RTS considering its 6 unique races for only 30 bucks.
2. The Witcher. Very good, very mature storyline as far as game storylines go. Combat may or may not be something that you dislike. I was fine with it personally.
3. Dawn of Discovery. Fairly complex but addictive and satisfying city management game that looks very very pretty to boot.
4. Kings Bounty The Legend. Very fun, especially if you liked the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Though blasted hell..... 100+ hours invested in that game and i STILL haven't beaten it >_>
5. Civilization V. IV Is also a good one to pick up as well.
6. Dragon Age 1. Definitely pick this one up I would say. If you liked Baldurs Gate then you'd most likely would want to play this. Amusingly enough i never played Baldurs Gate.
7. Shogun 2 Total War. Definitely worth checking out whether or not you are a total war fan.
8. Dawn of War 1 +Expansions. Old and graphics are a little dated but still very very fun to play.
9.Magicka. Buggy as sin but still very fun to play.
10. Mass Effect 1 and or 2
In no particular order:
Metro 2033
Deus Ex
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Total War: Shogun 2
The Witcher
ArmA 2
Penumbra
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Titan Quest
Neverwinter Nights 2
I'm probably either a very good or very bad person to ask this question. I'm VERY fussy abotu games. I look at demos and screenshots of games and I believe very very few PC games are appealing. Most are graphically horrible.
Only the Total War series has kept me interested (not all of them). I've not played the Elder Scrolls series but I think I might like that too if I played it. I've yet to come across another series that appeals. Maybe if I was 10 or compeltely addicted to violence I would enjoy many of the other games out there ;)
Here are a few Strategy game recommendations.
.
Company Of Heroes pack - one of the greatest RTS games out there set in WW2
.
Dawn Of War 2 + Expansions - If you prefer a Sci-fi setting instead of WW2 this is a good alternative.
.
Homeworld 1 & 2 - There is nothing quite like it out there. To this day it is still the best fully 3D RTS out there.
.
Civilization 5 - Its Civilization, what else is there to say.
.
All this games have demos out so give them a try when you can.
In no perticular order...
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. Add a few mods and it's an outstanding open world FPS with a unique atmosphere, story and setting.

Recettear: A small Japanese indie game. Cute, easy to learn, hard to master and quite addicting.
Plants vs. Zombies: A different take on the classic tower defense concept. A brilliant game for the times where you just want to lean back and kill some zombies.

Not sure what types of games you like but, I will try to list games that are PC exclusive or at least better on PC.

10. Guildwars (2 is coming out soon)
Planescape: Torment
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Just Cause 2
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Mass Effect 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The Witcher
Trine
Dirt 2
Company of Heroes
May seem random, I just went down my Steam list and those stuck out. Though there are plenty of other great titles to play. World in Conflict, Total War (any), Cryostasis, Braid, Batman AA, Crysis 1 & 2, Dragon Age, Deus Ex, Arcanum, System Shock 2, FEAR, FarCry 1 & 2, GTA: EfLC, Killing Floor, Mafia 2, Metro 2033, Mirrors Edge, Shattered Horizon, Torchlight, The Ball, Zeno Clash, and now I'm tired of listing stuff.
1. Psychonauts:
One of the most creative and fun game ever created, Psychonauts always makes it onto lists for some of the greatest titles of the last decade. Shame it didn't sell too well.
2. Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines:
Take a game like Deus Ex and then make it a semi open world rpg with great humor, the result would be this game, one of my favorite rpg games of all time (just make sure you use the community patch).
Mother 3:
Okay okay, I know it's not really a "PC game", but where else can you play the game in English?
Cave Story:
You wont have to buy this game, pixal released it for free. It's a very charming title that rivals games like Super Metroid.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series:
Many would argue between which of the Stalker games is the best, but one thing is for certain is that they all are extremely enjoyable. Call of Pripyat is the easiest to get into and offers the best/most polished game mechanics, with the best side quests, and in an open environment. Shadow of Chernobyl offers the most features, with a good plot, and the most replay value. The complete mod is required for a first play through but there is a great variety of modification that would add to a second run through, like the fantastic L.U.R.K. mod.
I will be adding more, just taking a break.
Wow, thanks for all the recommendations, guys! I'm definately making a priority list and researching a lot of the games that have been suggested (gameplay research, not story. I hate spoilers).
For anyone wondering what games I like, I'll probably play just about any genre (Shooters, RPG, MMO, Racer, Action, RTS, etc).
