Who would pirate COD4??? The single player is short, multiplayer is where it's at on this game.simardbradindeed which is why there is quite a large pirated mp community. big enough so that u dont rly need to buy the game

Those are bad numbers, piracy is a bad thing, i have some pirated games, actually, most of my collection ain't original, but prices in Brazil are so unfair, it's impossible to buy original games here, COD 4 is R$149, it's 75$...
If prices were fair, i would buy original games, but being a gamer on Brazil is hard, when a game comes, it's like , 90$, you have to wait until 2 weeks later or something like this. It really sucks.
Are those numbers for GTA:SA just for this year? Wow that's pretty crazy...
Also I think Assassin's Creed has been downloaded so many times because there was a bad pirated copy released for a long time, so I'm guessing people downloaded the game several times.
Should also be noted that most of those games have no/poor multiplayer support (COD4, CnC3 excluded, Spore debatable)
Those numbers also don't include actual piracy - burning games to CDs and selling on the market, which is going strong in third world countries.
FarCry 2 and Spore were absolute trash. Good to see people didn't waste their money on them. cmdrmonkeyYou'd be wrong to come to that conclusion just based on download numbers.
I don't think DRM's to blame on that - it seems to be more just linked to the popularity of the game. If they're talking about the original Sims 2, it didn't even use SecuROM or anything at first.

Lol, Im pretty sure theres more cracked servers online then there are real ones.
speak for yourself i pay for my games and if u just download them illegally it losing the people that made the game there profit so in time they wont have enough money to make another game and that will happen for every game creator and evenutally no one will have enoug money to make games so just cough up and couple of buxs and buy the game itas not that hard2steak2
Um... why do you assume a game being pirated means the developpers are losing money? A company can both make a healthy profit and be heavily pirated. Also, a very very small portion of those who pirate the game would have bought the game if for whatever reason they couldn't pirate it. We have no real conclusive evidence that people who would have bought games are now suddenly pirating them.
Also, very few people take pity on pirating a company like EA. There, the people working have a relatively stable salary and any leftover money is simply going to be sucked up by the company itself and very little will go towards those that put the effort. For small companies... like 2dboy, CD Projekt, 1C etc... its absolutely true that the more people that buy the game, the better the company does or that those that put in the effort will get the reward.
In fact the only game I pirated this year (or for like 6 years actually) was... sims 2. I simply wanted to see how it was... I decided it was a pile of crap after toying with it for 30 minutes and promptly deleted it. Not worth the effort on daemon tools.
1) Valve games are more difficult to crack/pirate due to the using of steam, yes there are standalone rips but these are full of problems and in most of cases they're un-update able, it's really a headache to pirate a Steam Based game. sure it's possible but buying the game is alot easier in this case.
2) recently, most of Valve games had high replay value, if you look at the list, most of these games don't have that kind of replay value (except CoD4). the last two Valve games (The Orange Box, Left 4 Dead) have the best replay value this generation imo.
3) Valve actually supports their games more than any other PC developer, they always release free updates and contents for free, plus the strong modding community which adds overall to the replay value.
The thread is totally meaningless. I mean, most of the replies were like "oh it's a shame" but no one is going to do something about it whatsoever.
I think this thread is more suitable for OT Forum, though I know Moderators would say differently.

[QUOTE="MrNacaa"]Insane numbers.Elann2008Indeed. Developers work hard to make these games and push them out and pirates steal a huge chunk of their earnings. It's downright awful. It's a shame.
yes they work real hard to put DRM's on our machine and sign ons that take forever and that nobody wants and port to pc that are not worth the paper you use to wipe your ----- when you are done poopin....
yes it is a damn shame nobody want those on their pcs....
