I was about to form an angry mob:P
Needs more pitchforks :P
I can't believe that TW: Rome 2 trailer is from a RTS, it looks better than Assassin's Creed 3 in places and that with ten thousands of soldiers on screen at once.

Agreed, that's what you get when developers focus on PC and really harness the power it can offer.
I wish multiplats would make the PC the lead platform and then downscale the console versions instead of having the 360 be the lead platform and PC ports just being upgraded version of that.
Is that all actual gameplay footage? There was only like a single clip, for about 2 seconds, that looked like the camera angle was what you'd expect, in game, in an RTS. Or does it have a feature where you can zoom the camera in, to see the close up detail, during battles?

Yeah that's in-game. That's the cool thing about the battles in Total War really: You can zoom out and see thousand upon thousands of soldiers and zoom in to see each individual soldier fighting his own battle.

Actually there is a new mode in Rome 2 which has an automatic cinimatic camera that focuses on the actual fighting. So you can get your face right down into the action like in the trailer.

God damn that's awesome. I'll definitely be getting Rome 2 once I get a new computer. Until then, what other Total War game should I try out? I haven't actually played any of them yet, but I've heard pretty much nothing but good things. Something that will run on my laptop, hopefully. dual core i5 m430, HD4670 1gb 4gb RAM.

My recommendation would be Shogun 2. It's less expansive without much varierty between the clans (it's just japan after all so that's understandable) but it's better for it IMO. It's a much more focused and polished game (unlike the mess that was and still kinda is Empire) and a good starting point for newcomers!
Of course older TW games like Rome and Medieval 2 are good too, although after Shogun 2 I don't have much desire to go back to those personally.

I always tell people to get the original Rome Total War. It's still the best in my opinion. Best unit variety, easiest to pick up and play, lots of depth that doesn't hinder the game.

Looks like it's only 10 bucks on steam, too. I think I know what my next steam purchase is gonna be.
I saw 2 seconds of what appears to be actual game footage at 44 seconds in, other than that I see nothing but cinematics, and compared to most modern games mediocre ones at that. I'm sure the gameplay will be awesome, but looks like a cinematic trailer to me.
Was I the only one that was disappointed? Hoped for some actual gameplay, not just a short clip showing off the visuals. Swiftstrike5
It's just a first look, of course it won't show actual gameplay. It's too early for that. Maybe the should have called it first in-game trailer or something like they did with shogun 2 to avoid confusion.

Allegedly, it has a cinematic view feature, where you can zoom the camera in super close, to watch individual units battling, in real time, during the game. So, allegedly, that is all in game. Or at least most of it.
Honestly unless I was completely blind, I didnt see a single piece of actual "gameplay" footage. Its pretty obvious what was going on was in game, however there was nothing demonstrating the gameplay itself... as in not showing how a player would be playing the game. It would be a bit like showing a PES or FIFA replay and saying "heres the gameplay", doesnt really show anything lol.
Looks pretty good though, specially for the sheer scale and size of it all.
