[QUOTE="SinfulPotato"]Don't buy any of them. If you must get a card get a 5770 or a 5850. If you have a 8800GT or higher wait for better DX11 cards. DX11 is not even important yet. You are wasting you money on "beta" dx11 cards. Wait for them to prefect it.SinfulPotato

I think if you saw Bad Company 2 and Crysis running maxed out with AA at 1080p on my computer, you might change your tune. ;)

Guess what, a 4870 can do that too. Quite a bit cheaper. Might have a 10-20 DPS disadvantage, but at 40-50 FPS I can't notice. Then again. I have human eyes.

You're tripping. A 4870 can't even come close. What are you thinking?

I have been using my GTS 8800 forever and I wanna do a major upgrade, money is not an issue and so is heat. The GPUs you've suggested are good and all but I want something that'll keep me from getting a new one for the next five years or so. At the moment I find GTX 480 to be awesome with its beta drivers and it even sometimes beats the 5970 in tessellation so that's a huge plus for DX11 games.

Good luck getting 5 years of running games at decent settings out of ANY card. I have a 7900GTX that was the **** 4 years ago and it struggles to run most newer games at acceptable settings.

It's been around 3~4 years since I got my GTS 8800 and it is still doing fine in most games, I could have SLI'ed it for a very cheap price to keep up. I'm thinking about doing that with GTX 480 in the future if needed.

Such an easy question to answer.

If you want price/performance, get a 5870

If money is no obstacle, and you want the fastest there is, get a 5970.

Don't stick one of these crippled, power sucking ovens in your computer.

This. 5970 destroys the 480 in all dx10 games. Even beats it in all dx11 games including Metro 2033. Lower temps and similar power consumption. Definately worth the extra $100

The first 8800 series cards are 3 1/2 years old now. That's a far cry from 5 years. Plus the G80 was a true leap forward in GPU design, the chip that everything Nvidia has made since then is based off of. The same can't be said for Fermi.

^^ True, but GTS 8800 was not the highest-end GPU at that time if I'm not mistaken, today the highest 4 GPUs are: 5970, 5870, 480 and 470.

You'd do well by investing in a 5870. Requires less wattage, it doesn't turn your computer in an oven, and its about $100 - $150cheaper... The GTX 480 has its own heat pipes for crying out loud... The amount of heat that the GTX 480 produces is concerning, even if you have a solid cooling and airflow system in your computer.

Yeah the 480 has too many drawbacks for me and I am glad I didn't wait for it. I was kinda 2nd guesssing but the 10.3b drivers cleared that up for me.

Also so far tesselation is not that big of a deal imo the games look a little better and thats all. The 5870 is the best price/performance card out now.

Nvidia really dropped the ball 6 months late plus cost heat and power will only a small performance edge is not worth it.

Come close to what? The 5870's power? Well duh. Can it play ANY GAME out at that resolution VERY WELL at high settings... Yes. Just because its yesterdays news does not mean it will not perform. Seriously, I feel like I talk to brick walls sometimes, just because its not the newest does not mean its terrible. The vast majority of games do not even tap into the full potential of the 4000's let alone the 5000's.

Yep, heck I still max games just fine, and even with a single 8800 I can still play most new games on high just fine.

I saw a review of the sapphire hd 5870 toxic 2gb same speed as the 480 for $449 the review was using the 10.3a not the 10.3b or the toxic would have been even better. Unless you have a 30inch monitor it's a waste but I still want it lol
