Eh. not impressed. Just an add-on like Physx. It doesn't add anything to better the game. Nothing to see here, move along.

^Hope so.

According to this, it may work with Nvidia cards after all.

With your partnership with AMD, will there be any features in Tomb Raider that will be exclusive to gamers with AMD hardware, and unavailable to Nvidia users?

"No there should not be. AMD has always been quite clear about that as well. We are working on features that are specific to the PC platform, but if they are DX11 features they will also work on Nvidia DX11 hardware.

And while we support features like Eyefinity that does not mean we do not support features like Surround for Nvidia."

It looks a lot better than the non-tressFX hair..

I don't know man.. I want that TressFX for this game though lol. I'm not digging the standard clay hair compared to the TressFX one. If it was any other game, I wouldn't care. :P

This tressFX thing is silly though.  Character hair should all be like that by now, and it shouldn't be proprietary.

Agreed. It can't take all that much more hardware power to do. Helmet hair is starting to get old.

I couldn't agree more.  Though I hope that:

(a)  It's not hardware limited

(b)  It's not as crazy as the wonky PhysX hair in Alice:  Madness Returns.  It was pretty silly.  :P

It is NOT amd exclusive:  'It works on any DirectX11 card, similar to some other AMD-built technologies - for example Order-Independent Transparency (OIT) or High Definition Ambient Occlusion (HDAO).' http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2013/02/26/amd-tressfx/1

nice tech. also great that its not limited to AMD hardware. more of this AMD please and we can finally get rid of this GPGPU mess we are currently in. i reckon this is one area where we will see major improvements in the tech department over the next 5 years. hair and clothes simulation. we can finally bring convincing trench coats to gaming and deus ex can finally be fully realised :P.

One is glued to nvidia hardware one works on any hardware...

Physx can do much more...cloth simulation, fluids simulation

,particle simulation etc. Iam sure tressfx can do other things, not only hair simulation...we will ha e to w8 and see.

Btw...nvidia did this with physx first on Alice MR

so in other words they made teh same thing but it being open to all hardware instead of PhysX which is only for Nvidia cards. which is cool. i can see that as a win for all sides.

It's not that bad all the time, but some scenes were Lara isn't visible run at smooth 60 fps and as soon as you see her and her hair it drops to 30-40. Not recommended to use.

Hopefully the huge FPS hit is due to it being new and not as optimized as well it could be. Otherwise I don't see this catching on at all.

To be fair, rendering hair like that is not something computationally inexpensive.
