Trying to decide on a laptop for college. I've found a few options.

So I'm getting ready to purchase a new laptop for college and I've done a lot of research and want to hear other people's opinions before making a final decision. I want a laptop that mixes portability with power (so 14" to 15.6" and less than 7 lbs). I've found a few that seem to fit what I want but can't really decide between them. They are:

Alienware M14x - I know people say it's overpriced but I woudn't upgrade that much over the base model so it wouldn't be too expensive.

Asus N55SL - A little less catered to gaming but still powerful to do a good amount of gaming and editing.

Asus G53 - Really powerful but over 8 lbs so probably a little too heavy for me.

Another note - I believe the M14x will come with a free 360 so that's like a $150 discount right there.

Also if anyone has a laptop I didn't mention to recommend I'd appreciate it. I looked at Digital Storm but I couldn't find much about their reliability. I thought Origin PCs looked nice but at over 2k for one that's decently upgraded they seem way too overpriced.

If you plan on carying this around all day i would not recommend a gaming laptop of any sorts. You do not want to carry a 7 lb laptop plus whatever else you need.

maingear pulse II it has the same specs as the best alienware m11x and it has an advantage of being smaller

No point in carrying that kind of weight when you can have something significantly lighter....

you may not think so but carrying around 6.5 lbs on your back plus 2 textbooks each weighing 10 lbs really gets old. I wouldn't get an expensive gaming laptop at all, go for a 14 inch amd apu laptops that are cheap and awesome gaming machines for about $500. Save up the rest of your money and get a desktop later on....thats where the real experience is at.

there is no such thing as a gaming laptop. ive never played against anyone online who isnt completely **** using a laptop. the screen isnt big enough, mouse space isnt large enough, sound is not good enough, keyboard is not good enough. and then you may have 40 fps with your laptop when i have 150. you are just cannon fodder on a laptop. buy a desktop and enjoy a proper gaming experience.

This sums up my opinion. There is no reason to carry around a 7 pound laptop. Plus your probley have more stuff in your bag. My advice is buy either a tablet, or cheap laptop and then a gaming desktop
