I like RTS but I think I kind of like TBS more. I have time to think and plan a strategy and not get annihilated because my clicks per second isn't as high as the next guy's.I've never cared for real-time strategy, but I absolutely love turn-based strategy.

Seriously, I don't get why RTS is so popular compared to TBS. RTS is more about who can click and micro-manage faster, TBS is about real strategy and thinking. Imagine what Chess would be like if it didn't have turns and it was real time - that's what RTS feels like to me.
Not trying to troll here, just stating my opinion. We need more TBS games.

I've done that, and it was choatic and lasted 3 seconds before my opponent threw all of his pieces at my King.

Uh, thats pretty much how chess pros play, they only get so much time per game and they have to move as fast as they can.

But they still take turns. It's not like they are both moving their pieces around the board at the same time trying to get across the board in a tangle of black knights, white bishops, and the other player's arms.
tbh I don't understand this kind of facist mentality...there are way more Real time games than Turn Base ones, either strategy or RPG, you'll be happy gaming forever without touching turn base games. why not just ignore them? instead you want them disappear completely from PC gaming?

Just that. It's harder to find TB games now, so he wants devs to make more.
ok, I have it backwards...something to do with so many real timers dissing turn base.
then, I think the chance is slight for more TB games in the future, if we still get just some of them each year, we're lucky.
with younger and younger generation with less and less patience, TB game will always be in the minority.

This thread reminds me of the thread in system wars I read last night about turn-based strategy games. The OP said he didn't want to get Dragon Age because he thought it was turn based, which is incorrect. It's not.
Some people stated that turn-based strategies require no skill, while on the other hand, fps games do.
Someone mentioned that chess is a turn-based game.
Following that, you will read such gems as this:
Chess doesn't require skill. There is nothing about chess that requires skill.
Aku101
The thread becomes increasingly ridiculous, as you might imagine.
I enjoy some turn-based games, but I'm not partial to them. I like many different kinds of games. So, not I'm not in favor of only turn-based games.
The problem, of course, is that it doesn't matter what you're partial to, because there are virtually no turn based games being made these days.
I like variety, myself. I wish we had more turn based games. Sick and tired of adrenaline rush games tought for the teen crowd. There's also adults playing, damnit, not just dumb kids.
Related to this, there was some interesting news a couple of days ago here on GS. It's rumored that Firaxis are working on a X-Com sequel. That'd be so awesome :D Firaxis is a great dev and X-Com still is one of the best turn-based games ever made... I'd buy it day one.
Here's the link to the news.

I remember that thread. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

That's why there are computers who play chess, because it just makes the desicion and a human types in the inputs so the computer can make the decision and the person is just there to do the phyisical work.
Whether or not it is a "skill" is kind of irrelevant, considering one could interpret the word "skill" differently.
The fact remains that yes, a person can be good at the game. Whether or not it's a skill is just how you define "skill."

I could say juggling does not requires skill but it just requires control like you said chess just requires a decision --- but I would say this is a gross simplification of things.Whether or not it is a "skill" is kind of irrelevant, considering one could interpret the word "skill" differently.

Dictionary definition of Skill -Proficiency, facility, or dexterity that is acquired or developed through training or experience
Making the right decision, planning the right move, trying to figure out opponent's moveand so ontakes skill. People who have talent for one or more aspects are able to do we well naturally and a bit easily, whereas others can become better (i.e., acquire skills) by practice and learning.
