Seriously are those guys out of their freaking minds? Its obvious that there will be so many problems with that connection saving system that they should just drop the main idea completly if they wanna sell. Judging by the first game, assasin creed saves all the time. Checkpoint, autosaves and collecting items saving. I will not contrubite in this crap, i will buy the console version.

zomglolcats

I dont get your point. The patch allows you to continue from the exact point you got disconnected (much like pausing the game), surely that is a good thing. As for getting the console version, they are still getting your money, all it will do is convince them not to make PC versions of multi-plat games.

Yeah but that is only going to work if your connection comes back up relatively fast. If your connection is down for a while, what are you going to do? Remain alt-tabbed for a week? And if you can still shut down the game and continue exactly where you were when you load it up again next time, that still means you can't possibly play the game at all ( a SINGLE player game mind you ) until your internet comes back up. Me personally, my internet is pretty much stable all of the time so it wouldn't really affect me, but it's still a ridiculous idea.

In this day and age there are relatively very few pc gamers that do not have an internet connection. As for connection breakdowns, if people are suffering from constant and prolonged disconnects then it is time to switch ISPs. The fact of the matter is all PC games have requirements, and if you dont meet those you cant play them. However if you do meet those requirements (like you do), why complain about it? This move does not affect you in an overly negative manner, nor does it require you to do anything besides keep your connection alive. To me it is a better DRM that previous ones, and if it works out for them that is great.

I'm not buying this game, and i am certainly not gonna pirate it either. I just...move along.

Ubisoft, it seems, doesn't care about PC gamers anymore.

lol @ DRM.

Has there ever even been copy protection that hasn't been cracked? I really don't see the point, the only thing copy protection is preventing is my money from going into their pocket.

HenriH-42

If I understand you correctly....Why shouldn't the money go into their pockets ? They are the one's that designed and built the game. DRM sucks, but it's one of the few ways publishers and games designers have to protect what belongs to them. Every time a game is cracked that means less money goes to them which makes designing, building and producing newer games more expensive, resulting in fewer premium games and games with more added restrictions placed on them.

The real problem I see here is that people are willing to take advantage by getting something for free...which is stealing....

Remember all the people who raged at CoD: MW2 for having peer2peer and all the people that rated it poorly on Amazon, Gamespot, IGN etc? Guess what, MW2 sold faster on PC than COD 4. That's how much our little corner of the world matters. Casual gamers and people who don't follow websites make up the bulk of sales. If Ass Creed 2 doesn't sell well it won't be because of the DRM it will be because people on PC aren't interested in it or because the advertising for the PC version was insufficient.

Apparently the longest lasting DRM was on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which managed to stay uncracked for a whole year after release. The hate campaign against starforce was occurring around this time.

Did I miss something Philmon? "if it works for them that is great." Wasn't the OP about the DRM being cracked? Isn't that a declaration that it didn't work?

About computer requirements: If you require to much say bleeding edge equipment you'll reduce your sales that way. They should scale the game so that even lower end systems can run it albeit at a lower setting.

Requireing a constant online connection to play and save is draconian. I see that this doesn't bother everyone and that is fine but when it does you shouldn't be surprised. There is such thing as to much intrusion into my life and this crosses the line. And for what? It didn't work. The game will be pirated with more gusto and verve because of the challange alone if nothing else.

Gamers lose pirates win, bad precedent.

I didn't ever hear of this until now. Not withstanding that Chaos Theory sucked it still should have been cracked sooner then that. Can you submit a source for this information. I'm not saying your wrong I'm just sceptical.

It's true, there's actually a small hand full of games that weren't cracked for a long time. Not sure the reason, and it's certainly not a good track record for DRM anyways.

It was a first attempt at a new form of DRM. You dont just give up because the first attempt failed, you try and improve upon it. However as far as DRM goes this is one of the better ones out there. There is no restriction on the number of installs, you dont need have the disk in your pc to play the game and there are no intrusive softwares installed.

They do not require you to have a fast internet connection, so I fail to see how this is anywhere near bleeding edge. As mentioned before most PC gamers have internet connections this days.

One minor correction. You can choose to save your games on your hard drive instead of online if you are so inclined the internet requirement is just for DRM purposes. As for it being intrusive, how is this any more intrusive than Steam, X-Fire or Battle.net? Those products collect more info than this new DRM, yet there are millions of gamers who gladly use them whenever they play games.

It is easy to blame the devs/publishers but what do you expect them to do? Just sit back and do nothing. They have to try and find a way to decrease the impact piracy has on their games. It is though to create a DRM that is un-intrusive while also preventing piracy.

Btw...just to inform you guys...the cracked version of the game Silent Hunter 5 is playable only till some point.

So Ubisoft was right when they said ""Please know that this rumor is false and while a pirated version may seem to be complete at start up, any gamer who downloads and plays a cracked version will find that their version is not complete.""

Apparently on the cracked version of the game the squad morale is reseting to 0every time and the ship will colide bla bla bla...in one word you cant get past the missions because you die every time no matter what you do.

As fo Assassins Creed 2 there are several cracks out there wich allows you to play only a couple of minutes...because with those cracks you cant get past Animus(screen is turning white) and you cant accept missions either for the same reason...further more everytime you exit the game ur saves are deleted so you have to manually back them up and restore them when you start the game again.

So ill say this is a big step forward regarding the new DRM from Ubi...if they cant stop piracy at least give them hell when they try to play a cracked game!

I think a lot of peoples would prefer to buy the game instead of playing a cracked version where you have to manually restore ur saved game files every time you want to play the game....AND IT SEEMS THAT THE GAME DIDNT GET CRACKED BEFORE RELEASE EITHER!!!So yes till now the new DRM is worth all the investment Ubi put in it.

The reason the cracked doesn't seem to be working is because the game has to download the mission files. So those that have bandwidth caps, like myself, are ****ed.

I doubt the code to downloaded would be really huge in nature or anything as the game works very slow connections

Internet detectives over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun discovered that SH5 doesn't download anything. The game's just another broken Silent Hunter, nothing special about that:P Read through this comments thread.

Not telling people that the new DRM downloads game files from Ubisoft would be an easy way towards major lawsuits.

Ubisoft's just wasting time..that's it...i've posted about that drm in gen games discussion weeks ago...
