I've updated Gta iv to 1.0.4.0 and I now get 15-20 fps on lowest settings which is a huge improvement but would I gain a bit more If I changed graphics card because the lowest resolution looks terrible with my graphics card.Sirwest299

You cant change the graphics card of your laptop. Its a graphics chip embedded onto the laptops motherboard. And you wouldnt be able to find one for sale anyway.

Actually, the latest patches made the game worse... they changed the way shadows work, so now their draw distance is ridiculously low and take a lot of GPU power (version 1.0.0.1 -1.0.4.0 have shadows that are more CPU intensive, and should run faster on most pcs)

This. Up to 1.0.4.0, I got steady improvements to the FPS but then it went downhill and at 1.0.7.0, I hit spots worse than the default game without patches.

Now I'm scared to try this version.D= How could Rockstar do this, there has to be a way to make it be playable, sounds as bad as Saints Row 2*shudders*.

I don't understand Gta sometimes because I just decided to start the game and I get 40 fps on lowest settings when I used to get 5 fps. Strange.

That 5450 is not a good card at all.

Kokuro_Kun

Just about every card is a bad card for GTA IV. I dont know what they were thinking while they ported it.

Not really... I could run the game on high with ~30 fps on my old system (e6750, 8800GTS 640MB, 4GB of RAM) and I can max it at 50+ fps on my current system (Q9550, GTX470, 8GB of RAM)...

People go into it and max all the sliders and then wonder why it isn't running smoothly, it is funny.

He is getting terrible performance because the 5450 is not made for gaming at all... It has 80 SPUs... 1/10 what AMD/ATI's gaming level cards have (800+)... It is made to run Windows 7 with DX11 support. Not run games, and especially not a resource hog like GTA4.

It's a lousy port. I can run Crysis and Metro 2033 almost maxed out at 1680x1050, yet my PC struggles with GTA4.

Its a horribly optimised game I get almost double the frames on Just cause 2 which looks a lot better and has better draw distance... horrible horrible port.

Yeah Just Cause 2 has way better performance than Gta iv I hope the next Gta game will not be as bad as Gta iv. And now I seem to be getting 40 fps again. It seems to happen when I turn on Performance in my Battery option and then when I plug my charger in the fps goes up by 20.
