i recently recieved a HIS 4890 turbo by way of store credit from a defunct 4870 and while the essentially free upgrade is welcome im finding the 4890 not running exactly as well is benchmarks and owners have said.

fallout 3 should apparently run easy max settings with 8x aa at 1920x1080 (my native res) and im struggling to hit 60fps with 2x. the same kind of fps i was getting with my old 4870 512mb.

team fortress 2 is the same with the game dropping down into the low 40's at points with just 2x aa when i should apparently be able to easy run it at max with 8x.

other games like crysis, coh and stalker getting similar results. while performance is by no means terrible it is barely at the level of a 4870 1gb, let alone a 4890.

im curious if anyone has had similar results and if there's something i can do about it.

rest of system as follows

4 gigs ram

e8400 stock

corsair hx520

i game on a 40' sony bravia btw so anti aliasing is fairly important due to the tvs size if anyones curious as to why i use it at such high res

Hi, i also have this graphics card. I think it's just the way 4890 works. But, I might have a tip. I was also not pleased looking at the benchmarks saying this card performs awesome, but then when I got it I didn't even notice a difference in some games over my 8800GT. Moreover, all games were extremely sluggish and were stuttering when i turned the AA. Try disabling AA in all of your games, and enabling only custom AA in CCC (with edge detect). I think that helped me, but my card still seems to underperform. What drivers are you using? 9.6 are the newest. Anyone else who can help us both? Has anyone got the 4890 to run as advertised? I mean, my games slow down when there are explosions in Crysis even at 800x600 all medium!!!!!! Or is it just that this card is a horrible performer with AA and explosions?

Here are the results of Crysis benchmark. It is prooved that Crysis does not use more than 2 cores, so if you can get your processor to 3.2GHz (or I can try downclocking my Phenom II 955), we shall compare the results and see are they similar (if you want, of course). 4890

NOTE: Crysis won't run in 64-bit mode even on Windows 7 64-bit, so I tested it at 32.

Overal, I think our GPU's should perform slightly better. Mirror's edge sluggish. Crysis... Pretty sluggish sometimes. Old games have low FPS... Does not work as advertised, nor as benchmarks say it to be (even the nvidia fanboy benchmarks that probably lower our card's performance for about ~20% have better results). Any hotfix for this? Is there a patch for this that fixes the problem, or anything else I should look forward to do with ATI GPU's? |Anyone|

I agree, that dosen't sound right. You may want to give ATI Tool a shot to scan for artifacts. Is your card downclocking mid game?

I know the feeling on the monitor. I'm using a 1920x1080 25" and 4x MSAA is manditory for me.

Give Prime95 small fft a shot for a couple of hours as well. Possibly even that OCCT gpu stress test, but keep an eye on your temps since it makes furmark look like Ati tool (it's no joke).
