Inflated amounts of VRAM on weak video cards are a marketing ploy and nothing more. You'd be better off with the 320MB 8800GTS than a 512MB 8600GT.

Yeah, it'd only be worth it if your resolution is above 1600 x 1200.

Damn, I knew 180 dollars for a 8600 Ultra was too cheap!

And ya, its better to get the next higher chip than to get 256 more MB of video memory.  Definately a marketing ploy.

Damn, I knew 180 dollars for a 8600 Ultra was too cheap!

And ya, its better to get the next higher chip than to get 256 more MB of video memory. Definately a marketing ploy.

Well some games and Res's Get Bottlenecked. See also the 320 GTS getting 14fps @ 21** x 19** Of course nobody has a 30" Monitor But yeah its mostly marketing like when i saw a 512MB x1300 :p

yea, i laugh when i see really weak vid card that had 512 megs of ram. Like best buy with geforce fx5200s or something with a ton of ram.

8900GT - 600/1800 - 512Mb - 256bit - 96 Shaders - 80Nm

8800GTS - 500/1600 - 640Mb - 320bit - 96 Shaders - 90Nm

Well, it has been a while since Ive spent over 150 dollars for a vid card.  And  I did just sink some money into a nice LCD screen, so might as well get a solid video card while I am at it....250 aint that bad I suppose.

the problem with me is i cant get a massive graphics card like the 8800 series because the pci express slot is too close to my pci slots and therefore i cant fit a massive graphics card. The 8600 series is the best i can get because they are normal sized graphics cards and i dont have the money to spend a fortune on a top range graphica card.

LOL! I still got a old 15" CRT lying around :D using a 17" CRT! whoop! large upgrade, not realy :D
