The 9800GTX+ wins on some games and the HD4850 wins on others, they are on pair actually. And if by "physix computing" you mean Nvidia PhysX there isn't any top game that supports it, so that's a false statement.

There are many reviews that shows otherwise.

I'd say upgradeGPU for now, then CPU in a year and go straight to i7 so you can skip the core 2 duo level.

Wow, no one is addressing the issue; you are all arguing about graphics cards.

First, you need to OC that processor. That will save you money (won't have to upgrade it). It must be an e2180 if it's a dual core 2.0 Ghz chip, so you can easily get that to 2.6 Ghz with no voltage increases and stock voltage. If you get an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro for $30, you can get that chip to 3.2 Ghz easily. The only downfall then is that it only has 1 Mb of L2 cache. But a 3.2 Ghz e2180 will be plenty good.

Now that you have that out of the way, you can pick up a better GPU. Spend around $130 and you can get a 4850, which is a significant increase.

If you go up to $240, you can choose between the GTX 260 (NVIDIA) and the 4870 (ATI). Both are very very good and are the 2nd fastest single card GPU's you can get.

So overall, you can have a very good computer with only around $160, where as if you just get a new CPU, you would be very disappointed (plus that would cost you around the same as an OC and a new GPU).

Finally, if you don't know how to overclock, go on google and read some guides. You can also swing over to the OC forums on overclock.net and they will help you out.

The e2180 overclocks very well and you should have no problem getting it higher.

One other thing, what is your mobo and PSU

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/11/06/overclocking-intel-core-i7-920/6
can he even do 3x 1GB DDr3 1600mhz + 4x4ghz overclock ?
http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=786&p=9
i being havinbg a big debate ever since core 920 is about o be launch and 965 cause the spec are not enough appealing
but Westmere / Sandybrdige in 2010 will be REAL hardware that are appeling it will smell like Chocolat montain of candy and fierce as a tiger :D 3.6ghz 6 core with each 2 Tread of phsical instead of 4. i bet it will change everthing
