So, after putting off an upgrade for the past 6 months Im finally decided it cant wait any longer. I was just planning on upgrading my CPU but because Im stuck with an old 939 socket looks like the Mobo needs upgrading aswell, then RAM to run with the new mobo.

So Iv got a PHENOM II X2 545 cpu Im going to upgrade from a Athlon 64 3200+. Now the motherboard and ram are the only things I havnt got yet, and was planning on getting a ASUS M4A79T-DELUXE and just a 2gb stick of DDR3 (1333MHz) corsair ram for the time being. Also, Iv only got a 430W PSU at the moment and Im not sure if Im going to need to upgrade it for this new stuff, The exact model is here. Also the graphics thats going to be running with this is a ATI HD4870. Im hopping I wont need to get a new psu straight away.

Basically Im just trying to get my computer up to date and capable of upgrades as I get more cash. If you see any issues with the hardware Iv chosen please let me know, or if u have any sujestions on anything better around the same price, Iv got AU$350 (US$320) to spend on the Mobo and RAM, and it must be decent enough to be upgraded.

That PSU will definitely need to be upgraded to support an HD 4870. It only has a 16A peak load on the 12V rail, which is not even close to what you need (~36A). Additionally, you don't need to upgrade to such a high-end motherboard if you're just going to run a single video card. If you wanted to run two 4870's in crossfire, then that's a different story. However, since you're strapped for cash now, you'll want to lower the money alloted for the motherboard so that you can get a decent power supply. Some good AMD motherboards for single-gpu setups are:

- Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P
- Gigabyte GA-770T-USB3
- Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H
- ASUS M4A77TD
- ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO

Those motherboards would be able to give the same performance as the M4A79T Deluxe with the components that you're getting.
