So I bought the Visiontek Radeon HD 3870 a week ago in pursuit of building my first custom rig. I bought it where I work (Micro Center) for a grand total of about $172. I found the 4850 is much better, and I could get it on Buy.com for $194.99 ($200.48 grand total with the second day shipping). So I decided to buy it, and I'm returning the 3870 tomorrow when I go into work. So my question is this: was it worth the extra $30?

Yes because the 4850 is the 8800GT/GTS's enemy and the 3870 doesnt even come close to them.

yes, this is what roumors told, but now the 8800GT/GTS "doesn't even come close to" it either.

i hear the 4870 is going to be really nice, so i'd say it's definitely worth it.

WOW of course its worth it for 30$ the 4850 is better then the 9800 gtx the 3870 doesnt come close to this card. and the 4870 is defintly worth it it gives u on par or better performance the the the gtx 260 and even beats out the gtx 280. its an amasing card for the price and well worth the upgrade from a 3870.

This seems to be the commn misconception here for most people.. te HD 4850blows ANY 8800GT/GTS COMPLETELY out of the water.. People need to stop asking which to get, the 8800GT is just plain bad compared to the 4850..

by this post I just wanna clearify that by "it" I mean the HD4850...

There are a whole bunch of reviews show the HD4850 out-take the 9800GTX/GTX+ and sometimes it barks rigth up the tree of GTX260, this is surely a underestimated card, yes i runs very hot but no-one complained about the 8800GT that run's just as hot.

So to set the record strait the HD4850 is not the competitor to the 88ooGT/GTS, the competitor is the 9800GTX+!

A better competitor to the HD4850 would be a 9800GTX++. ;)
