You're buying a 256MB RAM stick only? I say just go for a full 1GB...

You might see a slight improvement in game - but really also depends on your other parts such as the CPU and graphics card.

If you have the money, go for a larger amount since 256 isn't a lot. If you don't have enough money, save up. If I snuck a 256 stick of ram in your computer while you were sleeping you probably wouldn't even realize it.

If you already have 768, it's nearly as good (from my experience, though I can't imagine others' experiences being completely different). Depending on your setup, I'd go for as much as up to 2GB right now. Still lots of factors.. what types of games you're playing, exactly what you're doing, etc.

I want to upgrade to 1gb of ram before hl2 ep2 comes out. My specs are P4 2.4Ghz and x1650PRo. My pc can max out cs source, hl2, episode one, so I want to make sure that my pc will be able to max ep2 too and for Crysis. that's y I am upgrading to 1gb.

My old P4 2.0ghz 768 (they have the same ram :o) with its FX5500 also could max HL2, CS:S, but i doubt it could run crysis.

Yes. Because developers usually require 1GB for minimum. However, you should have more.

TBH that PC is quite poor... Really you should aim for 2GB for todays games, but the rest of the parts let it down anyway.

If I were you, I would save up until you have got enough money and sell your PC and build a new one. You can get a lot of power for a fairly low budget now, especially after 22nd July (Intel price drops..)
