I currently have a single HD 6870 and am thinking of upgrading. Would I get better performance out of another 6870 in Crossfire, or a single 7870, I'm thinking this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125418

I thought so, but I wanted to check. Thanks for the reply!
Remember dual cards often have issues thoughI currently have 2 IceQ 6870s in Crossfire and I love it, although I'm thinking of going the direction mentioned, and go with a single 7870 or 7950.I currently have a single HD 6870 and am thinking of upgrading. Exactly. I've noticed substantial increases in a lot of games, and some seem the same. I game @ 1080p res though. I'm not sure what res the tc is gaming @. If its 1080p then I'd say go with another 6870.getting a 2nd 6870 would be the cheapest and quickest solution. Some things will perform way better and some things will perform the same.

I game in 1080p so it definitley sounds like a second 6870 is the way to go. :)
If I were you I would wait for Sea Islands HD88XX to come out in Q1 2013. But if you must upgrade now, I suggest a single 7870 because it has a better tessellation unit and you wouldn't have to keep track of Crossfire profiles.

Yeah. I noticed that in Max Payne 3. I cranked everything to max but it would only let me go so far in one category, saying that I reached my limit in VRAM. Game is still pretty much maxed, and it runs great, but now it kinda has me wanting a single 7870 2gb or 7950.If I were you I would wait for Sea Islands HD88XX to come out in Q1 2013. Another 6870 would be cheapest, but you will probably be hitting the VRAM neck before those two card begin to struggle. So because of that I would also suggest waiting for the 88XX series to be released. [QUOTE="matrixian"]If I were you I would wait for Sea Islands HD88XX to come out in Q1 2013. I think he would be fine @ that res.Heck, a single 6870 would perform great at that res. I know mine did very well .I guess it depends on ur budget. If u have the $$ go big. Get the highest end card for ur $$.[QUOTE="shufu7-11"][QUOTE="mitu123"]

Get the highest end card for ur $$.I've been pleasantly surprised with how well my single 6870 has performed. I can run Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 maxed out. With a little overclocking Crysis 2 gets about 30 fps on Ultra and nearly 40 if I disable DX11 features. I usually play it on very high settings with DX11 enabled and no overclocking and still manage to pull a smooth 55-60 fps. Haven't tried running BF3 yet, and likely never will since I played the PS3 version already back before I built my rig. But when BF4 comes out, I'm running that puppy on the PC!

Yeah. I think it's a really great card. My son has the 6850 and it also performs like a champ. I though of going to a single 7870 or 7950, but I really don't need to . I have no issues currently running any game @ high to max with 2 6870s.Crossfire provides better performance but most of us would recommend you go with the single 7870(futureproof)I currently have a single HD 6870 and am thinking of upgrading.
