Had to wipe whenever I installed the newer operating systems such as ME, XP, and 7. I was wondering if it's different if I want to upgrade from Windows 7 32bit to 64 bit.

Do I have to wipe my primary drive? Is it recommended to do this anyway?

Thanks.

Yes. 32-bit cannot upgrade to 64-bit. They don't speak the same language.

Pretty sure. It's a good idea anyway as you'll end up with a nice, non-crufty Windows install, plus it's a good excuse to get a proper back-up going.

You don't have to wipe unless you still see that the toilet paper is dirty. But yes, you may as well save your documents and pictures to a flash drive and start er over. If you were switching from Win 7 x 32 Home Premium to Win 7 x 32 Pro or Ult, you could just do an upgrade install, but like others have already said, you cannot upgrade 32 to 64 bit without a partition or a clean install.
