You'll have to run in 1360x768. It'll look pretty decent, but it won't be pixel perfect.dmanrevived

Great guide.

Anyways, Does the monitor your using allow 1080p and 1:1 ppixel mapping over compnent ? By the way im gettin the wz version if it changes anything.

Last I checked, 1080p over component isn't 1920x1080 on the BenQ 24's, the monitor seems to shrink the image a little. If you choose 1:1, there'll be a thin black bar on all sides. Right now I'm running 1080p in aspect mode, it looks great even though it's not full 1080p, but most people can't tell the difference. I'm waiting for a firmware update to fix this.

It varies from tv to tv. Some have better picture over VGA, and others have better picture over component. Technically, I believe VGA is superior, but I find the picture is horrible over VGA for my monitor in terms of colours, everything is faded.

It is also known that the 360 doesn't do 1080p perfectly over VGA for 24" monitors. I don't believe any 24" monitor's 1:1 pixel mapping works with the 360's 1080p image over VGA.

For the purposes of 24" monitors, I'd say so.

[QUOTE="justinisloco"]

If i purchase that moniter with the optional speakerbar, and connect my PS2 with component wires for the moniter, will i be able to get audio out of the speaker bar?

dmanrevived

Component cables do not carry audio. Component cables almost always accompany the two red/white composite audio signals, so those will have to carry audio for you. Speaker attachments for monitors almost always require a 1/8" stereo input (looks like the little plug for headphones). What you need to do is buy an adapter/cable from Radioshack that converts the red/white RCA signal to 1/8" stereo.

Do u think anything that size under $500 would be worth my money or is 22' the best opton for that price range?

123kaney

There are maybe one or two 24" models that are in your price range. If I had to go for one, it'd probably be the Westinghouse L2410NM. It has a good number of inputs: VGA, HDMI, component, composite, s-video. On top of that, it has built in speakers, so you can simply plug in red/white composite cables or 1/8" stereo. However, Westinghouse products can be hit or miss, so I'd probably still go for a quality 22" than a budget 24".

I bought that monitor and it's great. I'm waiting to buy a HDMI cable so I don't have to unplug the Xbox 360/Cable Box all the time. What's this HDCP business? Like I don't understand it.

Some high definition sources like blu-ray, HD-DVD, DVD upscalers, and the PS3 (can't say about the 360 with HDMI, can't remember if it does) with HDMI/DVI-D outputs will only output if the display has an HDCP compliant input. Some old HDTV's and monitors did not have HDCP compliant HDMI or DVI-D outputs, and as a result, would not be able to view HD content that require HDCP.

I got a new monitor for my 360, it looks great, the audio just doesn't work :( . Is this the right thing to convert the rca cables on the 360 vga cable to the monitor's built in speakers?

That'll work. If you get the Microsoft brand VGA cables, that adapter is included anyways.

What you need is the official Microsoft VGA Cables. Thats all to that.

For the surround sound, you need a set of speakers that accepts optical and then an optical cable, of course.

On the subject of sound.

Can I run the sound from my 360 into the headphone jack on my standalone computer speakers, or do I need a seperate Aux In jack on my speakers? Is the headphone jack just for output?

Headphone jack is just for output. You'll need a separate aux in jack, as you said.

Okay, it's starting to look like this venture is not going to save me as much as I thought.

Monitor.................... $300

VGA Cables.............. $40

Speakers w/aux in.... $100 ?

I know I can run it through my PC, but would really rather not... but that's on me.

Thanks for the info.

You can get speakers with aux in for like $30, and the Microsoft brand VGA cables are $30 only.

Cheap speakers:

Yeah, I was also thinking, I could just get a female/female adapter and plug the 360 into one end and speakers into the other.... Not sure why I didn't think of that earlier.

Probably a simple question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

If I have a 360 premium, which has both A/V output and HDMI output. Can I output to 2 displays at the same time?

ie. Use VGA to my PC monitor and HDMI to my LCD TV?

Would this degrade picture quality if even possible?

Just a little follow up on the Acer 24 inch I bought....I am returning it b/c of ghosting and a poor viewing angle...while 2ms response time might be the fastest response time for LCD's right now it still has noticable blurrying and my eyes can't handle sports games like NBA 2k7 while the players are blurry the majority of the time. It's just unacceptable to me when the 5 year old CRT monitor I've been using doesn't have ANY ghosting and looks sharper as well, plus it doesn't have the aweful viewing angles of these widescreen lcd monitors, HD on an CRT looks about as clear, sharp and fluid as your going to get until they improve LCD's....I imagine the high end lcd HDTV's handle games better but the good ones are over $1000 and I'm not about to waste that kind of money. Wish they still made CRT HDTVs!!

Bump for a very helpful topic. Just got a Gateway 22" LCD monitor with my new PC today and was looking for a quick way to get sound for my 360. I am finally glad to leave my 13" mono SDTV behind! :D

I was going to get a PC Monitor to play my PS3 on and it is the Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP. So how would i connect my PS3 to that Monitor and to these speakers.

Or if i connect this sound bar to my monitor would it count as having built in speakers so i wouldnt have to run the sound to the external speakers.
