I appreciate great RPGs and the community seems to be extremely high on this game, and I've been itching to play it. But I have one question. Is the Steam version patched and bug-free (relatively speaking) or do I have to hunt for custom patches made by the community?

It's hard to top the dialogue and voice-acting in this game. The plot is really matured, unlike your everyday cookie cutter good vs evil crap.

Sounds good, I'll probably pick it up this weekend. Although, I might not have enough time to play long sessions (thank you college!), I remember I was able to go through KotOR with 1 to 2 hour sessions whereas Deus Ex always took more than 3 in a sitting to really get into it. Is VtM:B a game more in the vein of KotOR or Deus Ex?

The Steam version of the game is patched to the most recent OFFICIAL version. However its greatly advised you google the unofficial community patch and use that aswell. The community patch basically fixes all the bugs still left in the game and improves its quality dramatically.

well, it took me a bit to get into it, but i don't think many people experience this problem. from the very getgo, you meet some really interesting characters (coupled with fantastic acting!); even character creation is very interesting. once vampire gets its fangs in you, you won't be able to stop playing. once you take a bite out of this game, you'll understand why this is one of the greatest rpgs of all time. it's just that bloody good. oh yes, my puns suck and smell bad like garlic.

The latest unofficial patch is 5.6 but I don't know for sure if it's compatible with the Steam version. The 5.5 patch is compatible, however.
