What am I missing here? What could possibly be the reason behind it?

Truly, I don't remember the last time a game compelled me to non-stop playing. I am definitely having a blast (and very happy, for not long ago I thought I would never feel like this again)!

Nevertheless, Gamespot being my favorite games site, I would really like to read its opinion about the game; again, what is that? Risen is clearly not an ordinary game to be ignored like this... Is this about Dragon Age? Of course Risen wouldn't compromise its sales...

Anyway: GS is sleeping, but IGN is not. So, my advice here to the genuine die-hard RPG gamer is: don't neglect Risen: it is definitely a must-have/must-play.

Risen is a very long game and its taking Gamespot a while to do a review or the game is only available for the PC therefore, there wont be any kind of coverage.

Yeah, I just assume that are still getting through the game. I'm certain we'll get a review of Risen here.

Well, I just hope you are right. But, given the coverage so far (no previews, no hands-on, etc.), I sincerely doubt it. Only time will tell for sure, but I think this will be another case of neglect.

.

EDIT: BTW, when an important review is on the way, GS usually tells us so...

Ditto; and alot less than I did compared to the good ole days at Gamespot. I doubt anyone can name a GS editor off the top of their head (without cheating); because they outsource most of their reviews now. Not exactly the best way to build up a good reputation. Gone are the days when we all could look forward to reading a review from a regular, tenured editor, or watching their video reviews. Now GS can't afford anything like that, too much budget cutting. Gone too are the weekly video specials. It's not a coincidence that people consistently post links to IGN reviews here. Yet, GS has not figured it out.

I don't think Gamespot will give a fair score to Risen. Maybe they'll even make a shared review between PC and x360 version giving it a 5/10 as did EuroGamer. There were no development news, no previews, no hands-on, no coverage at all, apart from some early trailers.

The reason? Maybe because around here every game that isn't ultra-mega-**cking-overhyped doesn't count as a good one.

Just having played the demo myself, I do have to say the game seems to have been made by a bunch of noobs. Kind of hard to convince people to pay for money for a game the looks and feels 10 years old.

Come on Don't Defend, We all know that GS is ignoring PC Where is NFS:Shift Review. well There isn't,at least do a copy-paste review (like batman AA they didn't even mentioned the physics ) alto of multi-platform games don't get PC Reviews. BTW they posted Ref Faction Guerrilla merely a month after the release day and they reviewed the console versions of OFP:DR and ignored the PC. I am not a huge fan of IGN but the site is doing big effort for reviewing everything on time hostly these Days I come to GS only for this forum Because other forums are Crazy

Risen is incredible and like the OP said, I too can't stop playing and find myself thinking about playing when I am away from my computer. I was getting a ton of crashes with the game, though, but turning off Sli pretty much solved that issue.

It certainly is not Gamespot, as it once was. As their editing staff has been "dismissed" over the past few years, their reviews have become much less dependable. Personally, I find myself going to IGN first to read reviews.(a couple of ex-GSers even do reviews for IGN now.)

if you want reivew, go to metacritics.

Game Spot and IGN and other fancy reviewers only care about wealthy publisher's products, and they tend to give biased reviews. any big EA Ubisoft, Valve, Blizzard product will always get 8.5 and above, and if sucky games like Spore or Farcry2 still get at least 7.0

But thanks for the heads up about the game, not sure why but I never felt the need to look into it.

This isn't very surprising since this site seems to slight PC games in general. Metacritic is the best place to get reviews on anything.

Actually I noticed this too. Before, their reviews are fast and all that. These days they seem to wait til release date. Plus yeah, its not as "hot" as it used to. I am here mostly for the forums as well and just see their given score.

IGN already reviewed risen, and they gave it a great review. A great review, meaning it got a good score.

only because they were able to see what happened at the eurogamer, the review at eurogamer for risen got 4/10, and gothic fans flamed the reviewer so much. one of the reason the rageous fans used was that the fact the review used the console to review, IGN reviewer clearly mentioned that he used the PC just to avoid same flames.

before risen was reviewed, IGN posted review-in-progress and one of the screen shot contained the sentence

"I haven't got this magic yet, but I will get to it later.." then how the hell did this review got this screen shot if he didnt get it himeself?

IGN is a sneaky reviewer, I dont really trust them. maybe because they run D2D, and wants to makes sales off of big titles, but usually they give biased reviews and shamelessly give scores greater than 9.0 to most big titles.

I even saw them giving 10/10 to GTA4, and their website flooded with GTA4 ads at the same time. (meaning Rockstar studio paid them handsomely "for putting ad" on their webpage.)

Listen pal, the reason I would like to read something here is because I do like Gamespot, otherwise I wouldn't give a rat's ass!

Say what you like, nothing could justify the almost non-existing coverage so far.

And yes, I have the right to complain just as much as I want, and say whatever I like as long as I don't offend anyone or something like that. Agree?

 Yeah that sounds about right. A friend of mine asked this very same question, here's a link to his post where Kevin responds: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27064351

Anyway, how long has the game been out? A week? If I don't buy a game right away, I'll usually wait for it to come on a sale or something.. so having a review of a game posted a couple weeks after its release is really quite irrelevant in my case. Oh well.

btw, I am having a blast with this game. So much fun. Got 26 hours into it so far and still more to go... lots of the spells are really neat (I haven't even tried them yet) and the game world really sucks you in. It's awesome all-around. I was playin earlier today and my summoned skeleton warrior (whose name is Fred) had the most ridiculous pose... I made a pic out of it. http://i36.tinypic.com/rtm68p.jpg

Unfortunately, when Ocampo left GS, so did any sort of love for the PC from the editors that were left. For the PC, this was THE place to be for all and any PC gaming info, it's like a completely different site over the past few years. The only thing GS seems to concern themselves with is console AAA, and nothing substantial after that. The forums are the only thing left here imo.

to be honest, i don't really come to GS for reviews nowadays. mostly i'm here just for the forum. IGN is where i go for reviews.

When Greg Kasavin was Editor-In-Chief here, he asked the reviewers to buy their games. Those were good times...

an European hardcore RPG with no hype in the US? no GS by pre-or by-release review is normal.

as mentioned by many, over the years GS has become something else...multiplaform-console port centric and a part of hype machine for big players. didn't get a review copy from publishers? why not just get a retail copy if no pre-release copy is offered from publishers, play the game and give an honest review?

this forum, aside from being a pissspool for SW and console gamers, is a much better "review" source than GS PC review section. I got myself a copy of this game because of the discussion and gaming experience sharing here.

the game is great, I'm taking my time in chapter 1, doing everything possible. as of now, it's shaping up to be a better game than The Witcher.

This isn't very surprising since this site seems to slight PC games in general. Metacritic is the best place to get reviews on anything.

Actually I do visit metacritic regularly. Interesting, Gamespot is often missing from the list of sites that have reviewed a game.

The forums are the only thing left here imo. mismajor99

i think what matters is that we bought it, we played it and we most definitely LOVE it. :)

to be honest, i don't really come to GS for reviews nowadays. mostly i'm here just for the forum. IGN is where i go for reviews.

Well, the voice of the people, the voice of God...

It saddens me to say so, but I guess it's time to move on then... I'm a sporadic forum user, the thing I like to do most is to peruse the reviews and such. Or maybe I will become assiduous in the forums, I don't know. I'm very fond of Gamespot (even read it for quite some time before subscribing), and I feel sad, neglected and somehow betrayed with its new posture. Did it really deserve our vote for the best... the best whatever it was, sooner this year (games on-line magazine or something)?

Given the example of Dragon Age, I guess that now only the AAA+ elite (read "who pays") will receive relevant attention. I was pretty much distrustful after the incident with the Kane & Lynch review... I guess that was the point of no return...

This is Fact.

If IGN upgraded their foums into the 21st Century I would never Return.

Ok, I listen to the Hotspot everyweek on my Ipod in the car also.

I'd be interested in seeing how much money they make from subscribers and then from advertisers. And then the breakdown of subscibers by what the people play. Looking at the forums far more posts are for consoles so I will assume they get more money from consolites. Thats allright but they don't seem to respond to the PC people in proportion. We are the minority and thusly ignored. That is to bad for us and the only way out is to not subscribe.

But I too like most here use the forums for my information so not all is wasted. Gamespot use to be much better when it didn't cater to the majority but to everyone. Money does that to things. It changes things and not always for the good. Don't get me wrong, I like money and I'm all for getting all you can but it doesn't necasserlly have to change the nature of a thing if went about properly. Seems to me there is room enough for all if done right.
