Very disappointed with Gamespot for not reviewing Risen

Risen is primarily a PC title... so what did you expect?

ConsoleSpot doesnt cover the PC... they never did very well. After Ocampo left, theres no PC guys around

Overall, I say it's a very decent game. By far the best RPG on PC this year so far. My biggest problem with it is the imbalance between the first and second halves of the game. The first half has you spending a lot of time in NPC-heavy areas.. a town, a camp, a monastery... interacting with NPCs and doing different quests involving them. The latter half of the game is almost entirely dungeon crawling, one after another. I give it an 8/10.

I would score the game 7/10. Certainly worth playing if you enjoy RPG's.

I'm fooling around in chapter 1 still now. so far it's not a hack n' slash action RPG, not remotely so. most fights you can avoid and no monster respawn for you to level up without limit.

maybe it'll turn into one in the second half...doesn't sound good.

however, my biggest concern is whether there's going to be a geniune third choice in the end.

Well, I must say that I loved it. For the first time I feel I have total control over my char in combat: blocking and attacking with perfect timing. To be honest, I really don't get why so many people complain about it; most games don't give you that kind of control and you find yourself hacking like a crazy berserker and completely open to the incoming blows. Not here. The shield works second to none.

Oh, and c'mon, it is not a hack'n'slash RPG. At all.

true ill be buying it regardless after all the great feedback its got in this forum, however a well respected site such as gamespot should be reviewing these games before they are available on general release and if theyre not sent the game before release then it begs the question why are so many other sites / mags getting them but not gamespot?

Risen is epic and just gets better and better IMO.

I'm in chapter 4 now, decked out, feeling tough.

Great game, first time since Morrowind I've been sucked into a single player game like this.

I used to visit GameSpot quite a lot. It absolutly blows now though. After moving away from my 360 and more towards my PC I've realised just how bad it's gotten.

I flick on IGN and the PC site is updated quite often. Reviews are out fairly quickly and well written. Well, I think the PC section of this site is updated once a week at most? The reviews are late and they miss out big releases unless they're a multi-plat. In which case we just get a copy and paste job from the 360. At least IGN does individual console reviews.

The site has really gone down hill, and it sucks because giantbomb is just as bad and never took off. I slowly stopped visiting the forum and rarely come here now. I'm not even sure they actualy have any PC reviewers anymore

Gamespots forums are the biggest traffic pullers to this site. It's a forum site that does reviews and stuff on the side.

It's a real shame given what it used to be a few years ago. And given the history of mods on this site, this post will probably get deleted within a few hours and I'll get banned. Ah well. **** happens.
