Yup, exactly. It does depend on the monitor. You'll see a bigger gain on some monitors vs. other ones, but in general it's better to use DVI if you have the option.

Generally DVI gives a better quality picture, and I believe it auto adjusts the screen so it fits perfectly so theres no black lines on any side. the black lines will depend on the scaling option you have chosen,
