Im going to be getting a new computer rather soon and I have two questions. The bit is determined by the bit of the processor right? Also which one is better?

Don't get vista, ask Kslater85 in case you need to know why. Hold on to XP if you have a copy of it.

One persons bad experience with Vista is reason enough not to buy it? I've had zero problems with it... As for the original question, it's been asked about 100 times a day since Vista came out, use the search option...

Yes, 32bit/64bit is determined by the processor. Basically 64 bit is much better apart from one rather huge factor. Drivers. Lots of programmes are not written for 64bit processors and finding drivers to go along with 64bit hardware can be a pain. Because of this lots of people, myself included, decided to stick with the 32bit version of Vista. Interestingly Microsoft has decided for drivers to be vista certified they -must- come with 64bit support but right now this is still lagging. Hopefully in a year or two we will see 64bit being more widely supported. As to the people warning you off vista, don't be scared away by their warnings just do a little research before you decide on making the switch.

It always amazes me when someone asks a question and the answer is "Don't Get Vista , because blah blah blah". Anyways back to the question, I would get Vista 32 bit version (I did) for the very simple reason of better driver support than the 64-bit will have this year (or two); however, this will definietely change over time. I know from first hand dealing with Windows XP 64-bit version that pc components and software wouldn't not run due to the lack of support and the slow (or even none) time in developing support for them.

Go with the 32-bit version. There is a severe lack of drivers for the 64-bit version, even more so than 32.

I have Vista ultimate 32bit and well It makes me never ever wana use Windows XP ever again -,- .... I dont know why people have so many issues with it. Almost every program that can run on XP runs on vista some dont... I play games fine on vista hmm.... Take for example Fraps XP program it records the video same high quality of XP and well only has a issue with sound recording but the ingame sound is super clear if not better than XP... I Love vista and well dont like Windows XP anymore.... One day I'm gona get rid of XP... I watch movies.. Burn Information to CD or DVD no errors... Play games on Vista havent seen any graphical errors yet... Fast simple install way better than XP.. Dvds play as clear and crysp as in XP... FireFox Works perfect... I need to test more games tho...

I have the 32bit Vista.Had to reinstall afew things, but no big deal. For the CoD2 person, right click the start menu icon, run it in Windows XP mode, and turn AA to X2. Runs great.

I dont think so, But I am going to get 64bit, becauset that 4 gig ram limit on 32 bit (x86) is a real pain, and it is hardware not software. So get 64 bit if you want more than 4 gigs of ram

Well you can run multiple operating systems, but hte operating system can only run 1 at a time. And 64 bit is backwards compatible just so u know.

Yes. Core 2 Duo's are 64 bit processors and I'm running 32bit Vista.
