I need help, in half life 2, I get to the initial startup screen, it's the blurry splash screen, the screen goes black several times, then it says HL2. exe has stopped working. Cs:s runs fine but Hl2 doesn't. I have UAC turned off, I ran it in adminstrator mode(Even though I am already the administrator), I checked run in compatibility mode for xp. I have vista home premium service pack 1. My specs exeed the required specs to play the game, and I am reinstalling my video card drivers. IF this doesn't work, what should I do?

I would uninstall the game, then reinstall it.

Delete your half-life 2 folder in your Steam\SteamApps\*Yourname*\ directory. DON'T FORGET TO BACK-UP YOUR SAVE GAMES!!! If you have installed some custom stuff that isn't compatible, that usually is the culprit. Even if you haven't, I would do it all the same. Doesn't do any harm. Don't worry, all the game files are saved in a .gcf file in the SteamApps folder. Run a check on the integrity from Steam. Defrag the local game contents from Steam. If THAT doesn't work, then uninstall and reinstall.

Assuming we're talking about HL2 and not Episode 1 or Episode 2: Is your Vista 32 bit or 64 bit?

If you have 64 bit Vista, try adding -32bit to the Launch Options before going through the whole reinstall thing. HL2 tries to run in 64 bit mode automatically when you have a 64 bit OS. But for some reaons it doesn't work for a lot of people and has to be forced back to 32 bit mode.
