I just bought an AMD Athlon X2 Dual-core processor and Vista doesn't show that it's using the other core. Are there any drivers for this damn thing!? What do I do?

There's only one graph for CPU. Also, Windows Vista only recognizes the processor as "AMD Hammer family unknown"

Are you sure you got a dualcore? What processor did you get?
What motherboard do you have?

Abit AX8 Motherboard. I'm pretty sure it supports Dual-core. Do you think if I update the BIOS it will work?

You don't have a dual-core.  You have a single core Athlon 64 3000.  The "lowest" AMD desktop dual-core is the 3800.

The OP's sentence says, "Ijust bought an AMD Athlon X2 Dual-core processor ..."

It's very possible he hasn't updated his sig because he can't get his new processor working.

And if that's not the case, then we can all LOL.  But I doubt it.

And to the OP, I have no advice, as I don't have dual core OR Vista yet.  Good luck, though.

I can't find that board. Are you talking about the AT8? What is the exact name of your chip?

Did you download the AMD Dual Core optimizer? Do that as well as downloading the drivers for it.

I've never used the task manager in Vista (I have little Vista experience) but on XP click the [Performance], then click "View" --> "CPU History" --> "One Graph Per CPU"

If you have a dual core then there should be two graphs in the CPU Usage History area.

Is the new CPU model properly recognized in the BIOS? Cause if it's not, there is no way Windows will.

Ok I just saw your other thread and apparently that was the case so I am closing this one.Â
