Windows 2000 support just ended last year... Its not anything unusal. BTW, Windows 98 outperforms XP, so does Windows 2000.XP outpeforms Vista.
Every statistics say that consumers stay away from Vsta - when they can. I wonder how many would have bought it if they could have gotten XP on their new comp when buying it.
I heard XP just got its life prelonged for the 3rd time. It is going to be hilarious to see windows 7 flop too and MS having to let XP live as a symbol of their incompetence

Frankly I don't hate nor love Vista. I just prefer XP over it.Treflis
I agree. I hold no contempt for vista. I am happy with xp and have no reason to upgrade is all. I think many people share this line of thought. If I was offered vista for free I would use it once i was sure my system could run it well.
Vista is a commercial failure, no business in it's right mind would ever, ever use it.
Funny, people said the same thing about XP when it was released, because of the gaping security holes that remained right up until SP2. they didn't jump to Windows 2000 immediately either. Businesses always wait a few years before they even consider changing OS's, because it's alot of money to upgrade all of their computers and they want to make sure they avoid as many potential problems as possible to cut IT costs. Standard procedure.
It's just plain horrible if you want to do anything remotely technical - it bombards the user with constant, pointless "are-you-sure-you-want-to-do-this" messages
Those messages took me about a minute to disable, and they were put in place (as someone already mentioned) as a reaction to the aforementioned security problems that plagued XP
Anybody who argues that Mac OS X is a poorer OS than VIsta is out of their mind OS X hardly ever crashes and has very, very few bugs all in all a much more stable & user friendly OS than anything Microsoft could ever make.
Really? I've been using Vista for over a year now, and I've yet to run into a single crash or bug. I've actually had more problems with Linux, which is usually considered one of the most stable OS's ever made. I'd say it's pretty user friendly, too, but that's really a personal preference thing.
The Sad fact is that pretty much every game released recently (even ones made by Microsoft!) are build on computers using OS X because Vista is a steaming pile of **** when it comes to doing real purposeful work
Do you have proof to back that claim up, or are you just making stuff up and hoping nobody calls you on it?
You can argue that it plays more games than Mac, which it does but more often than not it doesn't due to compatibility issues with games still designed to run on XP so even that doesn't work as intended
I've had a grand total of three games not work on Vista, and all three are because they're older games that use 16 bit code (I have 64-bit Vista). I have a 32-bit laptop that plays all three, anyway. Are you really arguing that Mac OS is a better gaming platform than Vista?
Remember folks, there's a reason Microsoft have extended XP's mandate to hardware manufacturers since people weren't buying into Vista
No, they extended the support cutoff because they were naive to think they could speed up the adoption process artificially. Windows 2000 is still being supported until 2010.
there's also a reason why Vista is due to begin being phased out this time next year - it's a bad OS
No, it's because Microsoft has always used a 2-3 year release cycle. XP is the only Microsoft OS that wasn't replaced within that timeframe.
Please, stop spouting crap about a subject you obviously know very little about.

It's just plain horrible if you want to do anything remotely technical - it bombards the user with constant, pointless "are-you-sure-you-want-to-do-this" messages and it trys to cover every eventuality with a wizard, problem is these wizards don't work.thekodamanI don't think you've actually used Vista, nor worked with 'business' in that context. These are the same businesses that prefer to lock down user's rights in precisely the way you're complaining about Vista doing - if not for the generally higher system requirements, Vista would be a godsend. But hell, XP gives me a lot of billable hours because so many users manage to royally screw up their WinXP workstations, so I still love it. :) Ditto for the wizards. There are so many random little catches and gotchas in doing tasks that using the wizard is usually the best way to make sure they're all checked off.

That makes me laugh. Btw Daytona, I read your blog article and it's very well written. I'm definitely going to use some of that info. I tracked you, so I can read the blog again. Thanks. :)
This should really be in the PC Hardware Forum. Anyway...
This is an interesting topic to me, because I'm on an XP 32 bit os right now. My mobo and cpus are capable of running a 64 bit system. I can max my mobo out at 8 gb of ram. I recently installed an ati 4870 card and an 850 watt power supply. I also want to up my ram from 2 to at least 4 gb. I'd prefer to just upgrade to an xp 64 bit system, but apparently I can only upgrade to the Vista 64 bit. I've owned Vista Home Premium for almost two years now. I've just never installed it. From things I keep reading, I'm not sure I really want to. I know the ati 4870 has issues on the Vista 64 bit os, which is a major drawback for me. At the same time, I really want to optimize my system. A 64 bit system works well with 4 gb of ram...I want to upgrade so I can utilize more ram and optimize my mobo. But all the software conflictions with Vista scare me.
I'm going to go ahead and do it tomorrow, but I'm making sure I back up my system first. Vista doesn't seem great to me, but MS has forced me into only one way of optimizing my current pc.
IK! i think its because regular people go and buy a 400$ pc with vista that has like 1 gig of ram and expect it to run like silk. then they freak out when its slow! my boss at work complains about it all the time like its the devil just bc liek one game wont run on itVista x64 is nice, although I have some problems playing older games, I still like it.
I hate it when people join that "Vista sux" clique without ever trying it out.

It's even worse with XP 64, which is why nobody recommends you try that.
