So, I've hesitated a lot whether to enable or disable this feature in my games. I hate these horizontal lines when there's a lot of action on the monitor, but in the same time I don't know how much fps I lose.

Especially in GTA IV - it's getting pretty ugly sometimes without vertical synchronisation, but I fear that I might lose some precious fps, which could be crucial in GTA IV.

So basically, does anybody know how much (aprox.) fps do I lose when enabling this and does it worth sacrificing these fps for a better view?

Thanks in advance.

i think it caps your fps at the same as your monitors refresh rate so if youre monitor refresh rate is 60hz you cant exceed 60 fps. so you wont notice a difference unless youre exceeding that amount of fps. probably not an issue with gta iv ;) i could be wrong, however

Nay, nay and thrice nay :D

If you're playing a game where you're aiming in first person, leave it off, for the love of god, the mouse lag and floaty feeling makes the controls really unresponsive. Having said that, some people have delayed reactions and don't notice the lag while vsync is turned on at 60hz. You might be one of these people so give it a go.

If you're playing with a controller, if you're playing football or a third person game with auto-aim, turn it on if it suits you.

I pretty much leave it off except for games like pro evolution soccer and stuff like that. Prototype seemed to have really inconsistant mouse look with vsync off, (probably a porting issue) so I had to play with it turned on in that.

Like others have said, if your monitors refresh rate is 60hz, then the games framerate will be capped at 60, so if you're playing cod4 multiplayer and getting 125fps, you'll be losing 65 frames. If you meant, how much fps does it cost turning on vsync, it varies from game to game but it's usually quite minimal.

Well it won't be a problem in GTA IV then, because I never get 60fps in it   But, okay, thanks for advice... I've noticed some aiming problems too.

Yeah, GTA is a nightmare :D It's not the best engine to begin with and then on top of that, it's the worst port in history :D Games not bad though, worth tweaking it until it runs acceptably.

triple buffering only works with opengl from the control panel. You can only have triple buffering with rivatuner or if the game itself supports it.

I do notice slight lag with it on but it's better because it makes it look nicer and it's less work for my GPU in easier to run games.

I think it's going to have minimal impact on most games. Generally, I'll enable it if I notice any tearing on the screen and disable it if I get any mouse lag or anything.

I'll take screen tearing over mouse lag any day of the week. I suppose it's down to personal preference. The only game I've played where the screen tearing was so bad it annoyed me was the new wolfenstein, but still I played with vsync off as the mouse lag was worse than the tearing :D

I'm one of those people who play with it on, if I remember to turn it on. It doesn't really make a difference with my computer though =P
