alright, so ive been doing research on the suspected Intel price drops and they're supposedly coming the 22nd of April.  i know theres 50 topics on this but i want advice.  i was planning on ordering parts for my PC this Saturday, but looking that the price drop charts the E6400 (which i want to buy) is supposed to be replaced by the E6420 which is only 183 dollars (compared to the current $220) and has a 4mb cache (with of course the same ghz rating).  Is it worth waiting 1 whole month for this?  i dont want to wait a whole month come to find no price drops come and i could have been playing COH, source games and C&C 3 the whole time.

advise me, thanks in advance.

just get it, you're not missing much by not waiting, you are though missing out on all the cool gaming action you could do in that month's time :)

the corsair 620hx can power two 8800 gtx's if you really wanted to invest in that. that shows power right there. everything else looks good so far. good eye on the evga as you can step-up when the cheaper dx10's come out later.

personally i would wait an extra month because of the E6420's 4MB which will should a noticable difference in performance, but if you really cannot wait then get it now. ps the E6420 will replace the E6400.

thats what i really wanted to know, cause i didnt want to wait a whole month more for nothing.  if the 4mb will make a noticeable difference i might just wait because it will also make a noticeable difference in my wallet :).  Can anyone check out the power supply link i posted above?  i might go with that psu.

I would still go for the Corsair HX series. If your'e on a tight budget for PSU, go for the 520 W version.

I would wait, the E6400 can be overclocked as well so you really wouldnt have to worry about it being too slow in a year or so. A price drop would help save some money.

I would wait for the price drops. You get a better psu for $40 less, and then u can spend that on getting a better gpu (that would set your budget at about $200). If you can shave a little off of another component you could get an x1900xtx or wait for some midrange dx10 gpu's to come out, which should be right around the time of the intel price cuts.

If you choose to wait, get the 8600GT over the 7900GS as it will be a little more powerful at stock clocks and has DX10 support. Should come in at around $150 as well. I'd try my best to wait, I was considering waiting like 4 months for this stuff when I built almost 3 months ago, but decided that was just too long and I'd have squandered the money by then, but with only a month it shouldn't be too unbearable.

I've decided to just buy my stuff in a week or less...it's not worth waiting a month for the 6600 to MAYBE come down to 220....That's the time value of money, folks ;) PV FTW.

Ill take a look at that board. yeah see...ive been waiting a longgggg time to build but if i wait and see prices dont actually drop ill be really dissapointed. from what ive read the price drops are most likely coming...so i guess i could wait out 1 more month. anyone else care to give their opinion? wait or buy!?!

It all depends on if it's worth waiting a month to save 90 bucks ;)

I could really go for a massive price drop on Intel C2D's, they are basically a ripoff in Canada, the E6600 on TigerDirect costs 771 dollars, talk about getting screwed over for a damn processor. The sad thing is that the E6400 runs either 359 or 465 for the same damn processor except one comes with a freaking fan. I would rather just buy my own fan for less, 360 bucks would be a better price for the E6400 but seriously no one is buying the E6600 because its so expensive and thus it wont get a price drop.

Awesome, overall its a solid board. It just took me forever to get my ram working. I had to tinker in the bios. I donno if I'll be able to add more than the current 2 gigs. Since I had to adjust the voltage and timing. I'll consult asus if I need to add mor e :P. It was my first time building too. And this board is rock solid. I did soem dumb things like I mounted it straight to the case t.t . Still no problems with it. So its really nice.
