I am currently running a AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+ processor with an 8800 GS card and 4 gigs of ram and would like to upgrade the processor with something a little quicker, but still compatible with the mobo I currently have. I am not sure what type of mobo I have, but this is what I think, I will just type everything I see on the screen, part of it should be the mobo.

Manufacturer---ASUSTek Computer Inc.

Model---NODUSM3 1.05

Chipset---NVidia GeForce 6150LE

Southbridge---NVidia nForce 410/430 MCP

Any info would be great, just trying to speed this thing up a little more without breaking the bank, not doing any major hardcore gaming or anything, just like a quick computer.

Thanks in advance

If your motherboard is a 939 socket, then the best upgrade you could get would be insignificant which would be a 4800+. You could have to buy an AM2+ socket to get something with a considerable performance inrease. My single core Athlon 64 4000+ still runs pretty well. A large part what slows down computers are background processes. If it's running too slow, you could do a clean boot.

That almost has to be a socket 939 motherboard. They don't make socket 939 processors anymore, but you could probably get your hands on 1 pretty cheap. If you get a 4800 X2 and overclock it, you should see a significant difference. Personally I would overclock what you currently have until you want to buy a whole new motherboard and processor together.

download cpu-z and that will tell you, it's either socket 939 or am2.

the athlon x2 6000+ is good and the first generation phenom should also work, just make sure it says socket am2 and not am2+
