Your CPU would likely be a performance bottleneck for games. Pentium D? Isn't that supposed to be "Celeron D"? Going with an ultra powerful video card wouldn't entirely be worth it since, with the slower/weaker CPU, the CPU wouldn't be able to keep up. I don't know what card is around the peak area, but I'd suspect the 7600 GS as my best guess. I'm not familiar with the Pentium D (or Celeron D) CPUs.

no a pentium D exists it was intel's first stab at a true dual core and what a lemon it was.. sure you got 2 cores but it preformewd only hairs better than the pentium 4 and since no games at the time took advantage of it the pentium D was a flop. they also ran very hot you think thermi is bad? these things are rumored to be oc'd without fansinks and cook Kraft Dinner on them :P
no seriosuly these things needed a small turbine to keep them cool. no one could make a quiet or cool fan for these things while they were around and the stock one gathered dust like nobodies buisness. i rememebr pulling it out of my system one day and scooping a fist of dust out ..jokes.
anyway listen you want a cheap gpu betetr than a 7300le that would play those games .. hmm. my money is on the following and may god himself as my witness strike me down if im wrong:

msi 8400gs. there sint anything glamorous about this card i wont sugarcoat it for you but this card will do what you ask for cheap..28 bucks new. it will stomp to bojangles out from underneath the 7300le. i got hl2, doom3, css, rainbow 6 vegas, elder scrolls 4 all to go on her as i didnt own quake 4 at the time i cant vouch for that one. but it handled everything i threw at it admirably so i say thats one brave little toaster.
thats right im drawing the parallel. the 8400gs=
