That depends on the user I think...
I prefer source, because most weapons has a worth in that game, compared to CS1.0 and up.
I like how the Shotguns are a VERY viable option, and how SMGs works quite well in sorce, unlike in CS, wherer you could fill 3 buckshots into someone point blank and they still live.
I also like the faster movement in source.
It is mainly the hitboxes that makes source better for me, altho they do glitch up fairly often (well they did in cs aswell, so no news there).
So Overall I prefer CS:S, if I had a choice, then CS 5.4B would be my favorite, back then where the speed of the game was not "fridge like" and weapons were pretty much awesome :P (but the m4 was Overpowered and annoying)
For some weird reason the new Source Beta made it exciting for me o_0 no idea why, I still die before I can press a single button when I see good players but it's exciting unlike 1.6 and old Source, problem is that there aren't enough servers on the beta so I'm waiting for the final release :D.
In short, definitely Source, better graphics (1.6 is ancient), better feeling/atmosphere, more players.
I'm going to have to say that Source is the best one. I have played them all since 1.5 and source blows them out of the water. The only downfall is that people only play cs_office and de_dust/dust2... It gets old quick. I miss playing Aztec and Assault...KuRuPtAnGeLThis is true. What I would recommend is searching for a server with nice people that has a nice map list and to stick to it. I found one and I'm finally playing old maps like nuke, cbbl, aztec, assault, italy, etc...
Where's Condition Zero? :PRK-MaraI liked some of the maps but it had the most fail single player of any game I have ever played besides UT3.

I can never find good CSS servers doing an actual map rotation.. same with DoD Source. Its all 24/7 this or that map. Can't even remember the last time I played cbbl.

Your title should read "Which Counter Strike is better"
I prefer Counter Strike:Source, but I know a few who prefer CS 1.6.
Counter 1.6 = Way more enjoyable GAMEPLAY
Source = Better overall experience ( graphics , sound , physics etc )
Source is for noobs, CS 1.3 was the best but 1.6 is much better than source GAMEPLAY WISE. Its just much faster, and more "athletic". Source is slow and its just too easy to kill players. Its becoming more like a rainbow 6. More gripes, in CS 1.6 you could actually avoid being flashed by quickly turning around and even if you did get flashed you aren't totally paralyzed as you are in Source which - gameplay wise stops people from rushing and promotes camping. The less realistic player physics also IMPROVES gameplay. As time goes on I see all games are being dumbed down and are less "athletic". Only thing left really is quake live if you want truly FAST and furious action. Look at older CS videos of players doing incredible things and then look at source videos - they just don't compare. There are no "OMG did he just do that" moments in source as there are in CS 1.6 and past.I haven't played CS habitually since 1.6, but Source is unquestionably the better game in every way.

I played Counter-Strike since the beta (not the source beta, but the original betas, before Valve bought it), and I disagree completely. CS 1.6 feels stiff and more frustrating to play than Source these days - and a good player should have no problem astounding other players - I've done it in the middle of clan matches many times myself. I used to like 1.6 > Source but it changed over the years. Its really quite simple, if you have played both games you would know that 1.6 has better gameplay and source just has better eye candy. The problem is with source is that the hitboxes arent right, in fact there pretty messed up, making 1.6 a game that requires more skill. Each has draw backs though..anyway there both decent games :P, im really addicted to this gun game server in css atm its awesome ^^

I don't know what your playing style is but I'm a rusher, I like to rush in matches and in pubs. I don't know how you can say 1.6 is "stiff" as you are still allowed to move faster and still do MORE tricks unlike source. My problem with source it has sacrificed gameplay for the sake of realism. The flashbangs are too strong and the game just seems alot slower, encouraging camping more than anything. I will re-install CSS though since you said things have changed although I'm 99 percent sure I will be dissappointed.[QUOTE="KHAndAnime"][QUOTE="1q3er5"] Source is for noobs, CS 1.3 was the best but 1.6 is much better than source GAMEPLAY WISE. When I went back from CS Source to 1.6, that was the main thing I noticed. And the human-baby-sized grenades :) I had played CS since beta 1, and almost all of the changes were ngative, lol.. the game used to be much more fast paced in the earlier betas and with the way the accuracy was, all the weapons were fun and useful in their own way. I loved the MP5.

Actually css are not more accurate then cs1.6 but its all preference. Even a statement of "just another shooter" is too subjective. They both have they own little quirks to them. (css players state cs is to easy or hitboxes are crap and cs1.6 players say css is a sprayfest and blah blah is crap) I personally say go with css and see what hidden path does with the game (its being upgraded as we speak by the creators of defense grid... adding achievements, moving up the source engine and supposedly fixing all the little bugs). They are both great games with two much suttle differences to state one is better then the other.
CSS has a bigger community now but the cs1.6 community is still going strong after a decade plus. Its more a pick and choose. You will not be disappointed in either. Just expect to get killed ALOT. Most people playing now have years of experience and know the hitboxes perfectly on each game. They both have great community base anti cheating software and community and both has ability for people to easily record suspected hackers and turn info into admins of servers. Expect alot of one shot deaths. Most people will know all the spots and be able to shoot what new players consider miracle shots easily. 1 deags, 1 ak shot, awp, scout shots to head, etc etc are VERY common when playing in pubs and scrims. I've learned through reaction of friends that they had a hard time getting into either game as they would get killed many times before firing a bullet. Just nature of the games like this. Have alot of patience and you will catch hold to the game.
1.6......it may not be pretty....but it is overall a better game imho.....the gameplay is smoother and the hitbox works much better....i cant tell you how many headshots ive missed point blank in sorce
Counter-Strike 1.6 is still the best in my eyes. I feel it has an element of strategy to it, whereas CS:S guns are way to accurate making CS just another shooter.
Zombl337
I don't think the guns are more accurate, its the hitboxes are much more update.. CS1.6 had hit box problems where you could literally see headshots happen where a bloody spot was on the guys head.. But it wouldn't register.. It was a game where you could kill literally 5 or 6 people with 1 or 2 hps left.. This can't be done in source.
