They produce less heat and require a motherboard that supports 65/45 NM or both.

I'd get the Q6600, those baby's can overclock to 3.6Ghz on decent AIR cooling!

remember that in gaming , a fast dual core will out perform a mediocre quad core cpu

get the Q6600 + a thermalright ultra 120 extreme, if you have a good motherboard, liek a p35/45 or x38/48... you can get a massive overclock, hey, my 6600 is at 3.4, and its crushes everything i throw at it

trust me, a Q6600 combined with a thermalright ultra 120 extreme will be cheaper, and if you oc teh Q6600, itl outperform the 9400 easily (except if the 9400 is also overclocked, but trust me, go with the 6600 + TR ultra 120 extreme, if u look in my sig, my cpu has a 1 GHz overclock, on a TRUE

Q9400 is better than the Q6600 and you will be better with the E8500... If you want one of those Quads go with Q9400, Q6600 is old...

If you'll only gaming, E8500 is the better choice. If you'll do heavy multitasks, a Quad would be useful.

Gaming CPU = E8500

why you ask? well... most games are not optimized to run on more than 2 cores and that means that if you get 2 Faster cores (E8500 @ 3.17ghz OC to 4ghz+) it will perform better than a Quad core CPU (Q6600 @ stock OC to 3.6ghz) and trust me, its much easier to overclock a E8500 than a Q6600, also take in consideration that wolfdales (E7xxx to E8xxx) are 45nm, so that means less power consuption and less temps on your CPU.

Also, I'd get a really good GPU rather than a really fast CPU, because games depend more on GPU's than CPUs, obviously get a good CPU that doesn't bottleneck your GPU (E8400).

Listen man just take the Q6600 + a good CPU cooler and OC it to 3.2GHz then buy your 4870 GPU and your set to run any game you would like.

because its 100$ more expensive... if the dual and quad are teh same price, go quad if youre aiming for teh long run, if you plan on upgrading to nehalem, go dual... but i say again: Q6600 at 3.6 = better that ANY dual core..

A tiny bit better, anyway dont blow the bank on a computer, iam sure there are more important things then gaming in your life. JUst get something good like a 4870 with a moderately priced CPU like the Q6600 or E8400 are your laughing! :D

ur right daytona unless you'r a big gamer be wise.
but if you want power for gaming power get E8400 Daytona wrong with Q6600. it where i enter and prove it
let me remember my benchmark list and point i did it 5 time before. il aim some argument. for you guy.

remember they don't use strong powerfull card like hd4850 / 4870 but rather 8800GT / GTS / GTX but it as good argument of cpu
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2duo-e8600_6.html#sect0
the only two game in this review to show good graphic / cpu performances and are heavy cpu / gpu dependent is
Cryisis / World in conflict they use both good graphic and processing power of cpu / gpu

even tough World in conflict is more quad core on higher resolution then 1280x1024 / 1024x700 but Q6600 is down for several reason because Q9300 is better / Q9450 is better and what is awsome in quad core is Q9550 at 300$ / Q9650 at 470$ then overclocking it here more review on the run stay on
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2quad-q9300_9.html#sect0

they are several reason Q6600 is much weaker then other it one of the first quad core releash : and it fsb is lower and still a 65nm
whne the newest are 45nm and better fsb / multpiyer / arhitecture it like say SSM $.0 vs SSM 4.1 in architecture design
it change someting sorta. but it of other thing as well that change it like L2 cache
newest architecutre are mostly alway better in the end like now nehalem isn't good but it will be in future or else amd will rock over intel for several month and maybe years

Re-edit plz read up ?

The q6600 is a great overclocker. Those yorkfields are a little harder to overclock from what I have heard. I wouldnt waste my money on a q9400. Now a q9450 or better 45nm quad on the other hand has a 12mb cache. I really like that q9450. I really think well see more and more games and apps take advantage of quads in the near future. A q6600 3.6ghz will not compete with my wolfdale clocked at 4+ ghz in most games, btw, thats just crazy.

Im just relaying what Ive heard from most end users. Its easier to break a 450fsb with a 65nm quad than a 45nm quad, for the most part from what Ive been told. Although, I hear the P45 does do a good job with the 45nm quads.

P45 is Awsome for everting. it better the P35 unless you'r doing 30%+ overlcockign and that is hardly obtain without dry ice / mineral oils cooling

Yeah, Ive heard alot of good things about it, I cant wait to see what I can do with the same hardware on my 780i. Tweeking a new board is so much fun! It was a tough choice between the p5q and the Biostar tpower i45.

not many apps out there can harness the power of quad cores I read. Dual core is best value and all the power you can use in 2008.

they are cooler and better. unless it's video the q6600 is just about always behind the e8400. in photoshop the q6600 can't even keep up with the e8200. 45nm has 1333mhz fsb q6600 has 1064 mhz fsb

that i know... its not a contest if both are at 3 ghz... the Q6600 beats the crap out of the 3 ghz E8400... if a Q6600 is at 3.6, the wolfdale's need to be over 4 ghz..
