I'm too much of a wuss. I always choose the normal difficulty for games on my first play through. It's usually a pretty good difficulty for me, as I seriously hate dying. If I like the game enough to want to play it again, I raise the difficulty.Litchie
Pretty much this - me being a wuss part lol. Although there are very few select games I'm just naturally good at, like L4D, I couldn't stand normal or advanced when I started playing.

Now I'm starting to play on the maximum difficulty. When I first played Crysis I played on Delta. It wasn't really hard tbh.

I like playing my games on hard, like most of the hard gamers here said, it lengthens the game. But if I don't have much time to play, the default setting will do.

for me it depends on what game gender im playing, i like playing rpg's on difficult settings, rts usually i play through the single player campaign on normal settings, as i find the difficulty increases as the game progresses.

Normal for most, then switch it up if I enjoyed it. Except on UT then I'm Godlike.

Difficulty goes something like this:

Easy - for new born babies or people with a serious form of brain disorder.

Normal - for children or people just chilling out, trying to perform some footage and take screenshots.

Hard - beginner difficulty, offers good balance between killing and dying. Makes the game much more enjoyable first time through as you feel you actually achieved something.

Very hard/Insane - pro zone, nerd zone, awesome zone. You die many times, you break keyboard many times, you complete game once and feel like an absolute god. This is where real games are at - Crysis + Warhead on Delta difficulty is how its meant to be played! This is the nvidia difficulty.

I play my games on Hard the first time through, then attempt with the hardest difficulty a second time and use just that afterwards.

dont worry bro, this example above promotes elitism more than it actually shows any real information in it.

just play the difficulty that you like and be done with it.

this example above is void on alot of games anyway that have

1. only easy, normal, hard.

and 2. that dont even have a difficulty setting.

for me this has to do with what game it is really, realtime strategy game i normally start off in "normal", but the goal is allways to try and do well on as hard a level as possible. i play Crysis on "Delta" but only on "Hard" in my Fallout 3. it all depends really.

I start playing a game on the Normal Difficulty, if it's too easy, I'll change for a harder one. But if it's hard enough, i'll play through the whole game on Normal, and if I like it very much, i'll play it again on a harder one.

Super easy for me...with god mode or cheats lol. If it is too easy i go for harder. I hate saving then replaying, it gets annoying, and its hard to finsih...so if i go easy, i can shoot people (i play mostly shooter games :P) in the face and win instanly XD.
