Dont get me wrong, I have high hopes for some of my more anticipated games, but I cant help but fear that some developers wont learn from previous mistakes, or they will focus too much on the wrong thing and let gameplay suffer.

In Crysis, I am afraid that they will focus too much on the visuals and after the wow factor burns off after the first hour or so, we are going to be left with an average, run-of-the-mill shooter.

For Bioshock, I am afraid it is going to be too much like Deus Ex 2 in that it is way dumbed down and just not fun.  It is a multi-platform title, and frankly the gameplay vids just havent shown me the depth of gameplay that I experienced with Deus Ex and System shock, previous titles in the same genre.

So, what are you guys fear might happen with the games you are looking foward to?

That is why you should never let yourself get too excited about a game, as you are bound to be disappointed. I mean, even if the game is the most amazing thing ever, it will not last much longer than 10-20 hours (for SP), so there isn't much use in spend months or years looking forward to something that could be finished in a weekend.

Well this has already happened to me many times before, Doom 3 and Gears of War to name but 2. At the moment Warhammer online is the one i fear will be messed up. I want this game to be great, in theory it sounds like it will be but i have a horrible feeling it may end up a wow clone, hopefully i will be wrong.

bioshock: like every ever ss2 fan on the planet i'm concerned that the game will be overly dumbed down - but the funny thing is i don't really have any reason for my belief (besides ion storm screwing deus ex, but this is an entirely different story), all the gameplay footage looks solid and from videos at least, there seems to be some really brilliant ideas that are, honestly, hardly unique - but that are being used and combined in the best ways possible... i did see one video, though, where it seemed like the automated flying gun security things were disabled using a lever, i really hope that was a placeholder or i just saw it wrong or something, because the hacking mechanic (even if it's implemented in a completely different way, which would be natural given the difference in setting and technology) is important to me - i don't necessarily consider dumbing down a bad thing, so long as it serves a useful purpose in the game... complicated doesn't always mean better

hellgate: my #1 concern is that the game will be too americanised - i don't mean to sound anti-american (i generally like america) but the one thing that really pisses me off in games is american voices - american voices can be awesome at times, but there are some places they just do. not. fit. - like fantasy - case in point, gothic 3 - eugh, killed all possible sense of atmosphere... i know that flagship is american and is selling to a primarily american audience, but i'm just really hoping that, since it's set in england and since it has a focus on the demonic and gothic (which just doesn't fit america), that it isn't sold with a particularly american style, and while there will probably be some american actors in there, it just wouldn't work right for me if it was the focus - unless they were particularly appropriate american voices - i guess to simplify, i'd be happy hearing edward james olmos in a fantasy title (with his cool manly growly voice), i'd probably turn the volume down if i heard george clooney

those are the only games i'm really looking forward to and have concerns about, i guess

Bioshock, I'm not really looking forward to it, coz I have a feeling it will be another Prey...a bit of a hype letdown like... Now Crysis, my only fear is that the rig I'm building won't play it :(

Kane and Lynch

My only fear is lack of fellow players for the co-op.  Multiplayer could be awesome, but since we've seen nothing and heard little I'm a little worried.

Hahaha oh man, I kinda agree with you there.  That, and Europeans mimicking American voices (a la Earth 2160, so so so terrible...).  Plus, the game takes place in London.  If you want to have a gun-slinging billy badass American character (the "token American", if you will) thats fine but please make the majority of them British.

Sort of unrelated, but that kinda pissed me off about 28 Weeks Later.  In the first movie, 28 Days Later, I loved how all the actors were British and had those accents just made it gritty to me.  I dont want to sound like a jerk or anything, but seeing a stereotypical British person going totally apesh** to rescue those two girls was awesome!

Now theyre turning the franchise into a Hollywood blockbuster with explosions, the military, and American actors.

Ya, I went through this with Tiberian Sun.  That game was so thoroughly publicized that once I got the game, nothing was special about it.  I knew every single unit, the storyline, the gameplay, all before it was released.  I still had fun with it, but it lacked that fuzzy feeling I get when I played Red Alert and the original C&C.

Short gameplay time, :(. When i pay $50 for a game and dont get at least 24 hours worth of gameplay time out of it i feel like i had just wasted my money.  A game could always have a short story mode, as long as it has a good multi player feature. Online gaming FTW.

Aren't most PC SP games like that, though? The only time you really play a PC game when you're done with it is if it has a deep multiplayer.

Not so much with me.  I usually play a gem like Deus Ex three or four times a year, and I often go back to System Shock 2, C&C, Red Alert, Silent Hunter 3, and a bunch of other games.  I admit asking for over 18 hours in a game is a bit much, but they could atleast make it worth replaying now and again.

I love multiplayer, but I just dont think developers should use that as an excuse to make a sub-par singleplayer experience (as found in Supreme Commander, imo).  Unless you market a game as multiplayer only, as with the Battlefield series or Counterstrike, you had better damn well put all your effort into making an amazing singleplayer game.

Crysis I fear that they may borrow ideas from other games too much. I fear that the mp might suck again. I fear that it won't be as fun because the opponents don't speak english (smack down on ya)

In Quake Wars I fear not having persitent unlocks, I fear that graphically it might be weak, I fear it will be a spam fest type game.

In Hellgate I fear it will be generic with no strong back story

In Left 4 Dead I fear it could be too fast and require too much teamwork to survive

I fear that They Hunger will breeze past unoticed despite being a fun game

I fear that Episode 2 will miss 2007 and portal and tf2 will get dragged with it. I fear that portal will get old fast. I fear that TF2 won't be the same as TFC

My fear in anticipated games? That they cut out most of the pre-release content, like STALKER.

It used to have a non-loading zone world, vehicles to drive, smart AI, but all of it was almost taken out after release. But thank God they left the coding in. Aspiring modders have added in the vehicles, and are on the way to full game conversions, if the SDK comes out.
