I miss the the long walks on the beach, watching the sun rise, and the cool air of a summers afternoon.
Similarly I also miss for PC Gaming:
the real heroes of the games like Max Payne and Garrett, Gordon and Alyx.
Stories that really shock you and make you want to keep playing. Mass Effect has been one of the few this year.
...And buying random games, that was really great during the 90's! I didn't have internet, I didn't read any magazines, I never expected what I'd get. It was really a wonderful feeling, opening the box (and they usually had really, really cool boxart) and installing that new game and finding out what kind of game it is.HenriH-42
Yes! I used to go to EB Games (back when they had PC Games) and just browse around, looking at the boxes, & reading the game descriptions. I bought tons of games and they were mostly good. I didn't even read reviews back then. There was definitely some excitement for Herrick when I would be waiting for the game to install.
Some of the excellent games I bought without reading reviews or previews: Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Deus Ex, Blade of Darkness, Thief, Quake II, Half Life. As Borat would say, Happy Times.
[QUOTE="Orcishman05"][QUOTE="bogaty"]I miss games that valued depth, thought and replayability over instant gratification, twitch based gameplay, dumbed down interface, linear level design, overused genres, and cliched storylines aimed at ADD afflicted 14 year olds.
I also miss space sims that require a joystick.

Couldnt have said it better. Only thing I would add is, I miss when all the PC games where made by small game companies, so they actually listened to what their players wanted because they where competing with all the other small gaming companies. Now, they just milk series', such as COD, no game should EVER reach number 5. Or, make games that as soon as people buy their game, they forget about it, and dont care if its glitchy. They made their money, why should they care?
This is why I consider Valve to be one of the best gaming companies around. TF2 was released almost a year ago, but they are still patching and adding new weapons to it! :)
Blizzard just released a patch for Starcraft... im sure it was pretty minor, but still supporting a 10 year old game (or any software) is pretty impressive.

Well, the type of products they used to release. Today I often have to settle either with extremely complexes systems which aren't feeling as games anymore...or with overly simplified games.
That's been said, everything ain't dark, many neat and nice games and twists...and mostly I change and feel less the desire to play.
I miss games created by people who loved games. People who made the games that they wanted to play instead of developing soulless products and brands to appease the corporate bean-counters and appeal to the McPublic.
I miss::::
Shiny Entertainment's games like Sacrifice and Citizen Kuboto, which will most likely never have sequels due to Interplay going down under..
Bullfrog's games like Populous and Dungeon keeper, which will never happen due to EA destroying Bullfrog.. Splitting up the dev, the main is now head of Lionhead.
Volitions games like the Freespace Series.. Never will happen, Interplay sold the rights to jackass Derek Smart.
old lucasart's games like Dark Forces, Jedi Outcast, Xwing Alliance, Xwing, Tie Fighter. Probably will never have sequels against due to LucasArts being retards and releasing crap console game after crap console game.
Ensemble Studio's games like Age of Empires 1 and 2, as well as Age of Mythology. Age of Empires 3 is dumbed down, and Ensemble is being destroyed after the stupid Halo RTS.
Activision's older games like Heavy Gear series. No clue on this one..
Blackisle's games like Baldur's Gate series. Won't happen for odvious reasons.
I miss the insanely complex combat flight sims that, if you plotted your course properly, wouldn't even pit you in a dogfight on some missions, instead leaving you to compensate for wind blowing you gently off course for 25 minutes while you watch an aggressive looking little blit on your radar trying to catch up with you to engage.
Throttles, flipswitches, dual triggers and box-enclosed missile ignition joysticks.
Thems were the days.
I've been wondering over the past few years what has been lacking from games these days. These days, I barely play any games at all, and if I do - they're usually old. I'll admit, this is partly due to my final years of school being quite intense - but mainly, I think games have severely decreased in quality over these few years.
We don't have real developers anymore. We've got business men out to make money - and I'll admit it - they know how to do it - better than developers from the 90s. But what we're left with is nothing innovative, nothing creative - everything is the same old. These days, if you've played one game, you've played every game from that genre. Developers from the 90s were committed to making the best games they could, because they loved their jobs and loved making games.
