Well what kind of editing do you want to do?  There are dozens and some are better than others at certain things.

I like Vista's built in editor, but I am cheap and am not a professional.

Sony Vegas, cause it is the one I learned to use first... It has lots of effects and I've found it easy to work with.

Regarless to what you want to do you will probably learn that buying a big "all in one" package is not the way to go.  The most powerful video editing is done in stages and can almost all be done with freeware.  This site is HARD CORE!  And has guids to walk you through doing anything you might want to do.  They list what sotware you need and links to where to get it.

http://www.videohelp.com/

Example you can do almost everything with TMPGEnc and VirtualDub.

I was planning on making various gameplay trailers and such tweaked to have some nice effects. I was also planning to use a good video editing program for a few projects that I render out in Maya.

The best one is adobe after effects, its the best, no movie editor comes close to its powerfullness, I use it all the time. But it is complicated. Oh and theres plug ins to import maya stuff, and view it in full 3d space in after effects. great tutorials at www.videocopilot.net

Thanks bud, I'll be sure to check it out, and start to learn it a bit. Any suggestions for something a tad more simple that I can use in the meantime.
