Hmm, my dream RPG would be
Scale: TES4 Oblivion
Graphic: Crysis (I know this game isnt RPG, but..)
Dialogue/Voice Acting: Mass Effect
Environment: S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC (again, this game isnt RPG, but..)
Story: Fallout Series.
Sound/Music: Baldur's Gate
Technical: company that sorta works like Valve or Blizzard. (continously supporting game with patches)
Distributor: any company that is not EA.
Choices that affect the ending. And not just Good or Evil, should have multiple endings and add replay value.

Alignment System: Mass Effect
Immersion: Mass Effect
The most important thing for me in an RPG game is immersion. The world has to seem to be alive and my character is just part of it. I don't need to be the next great hero or demi-god, I'd like to just feel part of something that would make sense if "I" wasn't there. Beyond that I'd like a combat system that makes sense; e.g. enemies that have comparable skills/abilities to a player of equal strength (of course there should be a variety of npc with unique abilities, etc.) The purpose for immersion has to be varied.. not everyone has to be on the same track in the world. For example in Star Wars: Galaxies there were people who were completely happy being a dancer or a gene therapist without needing to go out and battle.. and of course other who were mainly interested in combat. Various landscapes/areas/planets/dimentions.. Various architectures/interactions; e.g. not every 'town' there is has to have an inn, a store, a bank, etc. I don't like reading the same book with different covers. These are more aimed at an MMO and I'm hoping SW:TOR will deliver a high percentage.
Where do most RPG's fail?incarnum13
Personally, most RPGs fail to immerse me. The only ones that haev immersed me are Mass Effect, Oblivion, and the Fallout series. And, if you don't mind me asking, why do you need to know all of this?
i am putting the finishing touches on mine, i have the book v done and almost ready to come out, but i am also makeing a MMORPG/ single( can choose) that will come out in a few years, but i am doing all the work for it nowincarnum13
That's what I thought. Tell me when you release.
Strategy - Mass effect? LOl, what strategy? Maturity and Environment mass Effect? WOW, one of ME;s biggest weakness is its sameness in its environments, and poorly designed areas. It is hardly mature, see the wticher for that.Size of Map: Sins of a Solar Empire

again thank you all, sorry i havent answerd back, i have been off the net for a while trying to get some other projects started
Can I go out on a limb and say............a fantasy wild west rpg.
Where I start out in a saloon, with a mount, and have a wide open
area to explore. I could have a 3 person party and plenty of
opportunities for good/evil/ and things in between.
I could do bank heists or try to foil them, etc. etc.
Where do most RPG's fail?incarnum13I believe that there are two types of 'failures.' 1 is when you grind to 'max level' and finish that content.. would you start all over? if no, fail.. 2 is when you get to level 20 and you think to yourself 'oh man 40 more levels of this!?' if yes, fail So for 1 and 2 you would need variety in characters or how they characters 'live out' their 'careers.'
Nailed it. They don't make games with stories like BG or PT anymore. For me, when playing an RPG, the story and character options are usually the first thing I care about and combat/strategy second.Oblivion with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic's combat, Mass Effect's dialogue, and Planescape or Baldur's Gate's story.

My ideal RPG would be like this:
