Any game pretty much in the mid/late 80's for PC. There were so many and my computer was filled with like 200 of them.
Most Memorable Mentions from that era
The list can just go on and on and on.
Yep, that's right, I'm not afraid to admit it. No, Half Life didn't get me into PC gaming, but that's probably because I was only 8.
Well, I've played PC games throughout most of my life, but it was never anything serious. I just played them if I could. So Doom, Tie Fight/X-Wing...lots of stuff. But I guess the most distinct point was when I bought a used GeForce 3 card off Ebay so I could buy Battlefield 1942 and GTA3.
More recently, it hasn't been a game but the nature of the PC. I like putting them together as it makes me feel as if it's my own. I like setting it up as a media center. So that's all cool, but in terms of gaming, it's the move towards digital distribution. You see, I don't mind buying cheap $5-10 games off of PSN. But I feel like tieing my future game purchases to hardware that I have no control over and will be dropped by the supplier after several years is a disturbing trend. At least with a PC, you can play any game in last 20 years basically and know it will work. But you can't pop a SNES cart into a Wii.
I guess I just can't accept having don't my games dying the day my console dies. If my PC dies, that sucks, I buy a new part (or possibly a whole new one), and all of my games work again. I'm not writing off those other platforms completely, but I'm being much more careful about which platform I buy a game on, if given the option. If I think I'll use local co-op, use the console. But if not, get it on PC and have it for a long time.
Honestly It was my relatives....my Uncle fed me Lucasarts games and Mechwarrior games (he's given me tons....15-20 games total including BF2142 and Halo for PC)...then my parents who made a loophole saying I couldn't play any Consoles :)
that's what started it and....I couldn't put down Mechwarrior 2; probly the first game where I could literally dominate people and was top dog on a lot of matches...
I gamed a bit before for sure, but really crap games like DRIVER, the only good one was FF7 on PC.Hitsuguya
No way! Driver was a great game. The sequel and 3rd was crap though.
Believe it or not, Age of Empires III. I wanted to run that game so bad! After hundreds of hours spent playing Age of Empires II I couldn't resist, and my old P3 with MX440 wouldn't even run it.
Diablo was the game that got me into PC gaming in the first place, however. It wasn't until AoE3 that I built my PC's just for gaming.

Crysis_Pwns
I don't believe it. You are the same as me!!!!
In the early 80's back when 120 and 300baud modems were king, a game called Rogue (think it was maybe called hack n slay before that?) caught my interest. It was ASCII and graphic-wise it didn't compare to my Commadore or Atari, but it was incredibly fun. After that text games like Zyll and Zork came next.....Kings Quest series was great....but out of all the games up to present time Doom and Hexen multiplayer over modem was mind blowing.
after reading more posts I completely agree with the wolfenstein and Duke Nukem :) how many countless hours did I spend on those?
Was it Heretic or Hexen where you could turn your opponent into a chicken?
As you can tell from my avatar image, it was most defenitely Starcraft. I still think the story is one of the most engaging that I've ever had the pleasure to experience. Never even finished the BroodWar campaign, though. I guess I'll never know what happened to the dark templar.....
Also, MINESWEEPER!
Wolf3D. Played it on windows 3.1 back in the day.

Same here. One of my "what if" wishes when I was younger was a game played from the first person perspective. When I saw Wolf 3D with said perspective and older arcade looking visuals, I was hooked on PC gaming. Tie Fighter, Doom, Dark Forces, Duke 3D and some others that came out shortly after solidified my gaming habit as on the PC.
First COD. I only started PC gaming in 2003. I'm 16.-AK47-
Wow.. exactly the same for me(not sure on the exact year though). The vCoD/CoD:UO got me started. CoD2 dragged me into the community aspect and started me in the learning process of building computers.CoD4 has really let me down though.
Guild Wars was what made me an "HardCore PC Gamer" though.
