I've been thinking of getting a mac someday and i was just wondering, since you can use steam for a mac im pretty sure, could i just download steam then get games off the steam store and play them through steam like that on a mac? would that work out alright or would i be better off getting a nice pc for gaming?Jacob1244
No, because those games might not work on Mac, and I don't think steam is compatible with mac's
if you're really serious about gaming, stick w/ a PC. Yes, there are a couple of decent games ported to mac (COD series comes to mind), but even if you install boot camp to run Windows, macs are not very upgradeable at all as far as internal hardware (CPU, GPU, etc.) There are companies out there , codeweavers making Crossover for Mac for example, looking to emulate Windows environments to game on Macs, but they affect gameplay frame-rates substantially. That is how they have gotten Steam to work but like I said, framerates are not that great.
Mac OSX leopard is a fantastic operating system, but is not for gaming. I had a Macbook Pro earlier this year and sold it to buy a gaming rig cause I was really getting into PC games. However, my parents have a 24" iMac and whenever I visit them and use it I find myself missing my Mac alot. Just for simple usage (email, listening to music/watching video, internet surfing, word processing, etc.) Macs just seem to flow and run a lot smoother. I know down the line I'll prob pick up a cheapo used Macbook or something.
My firend owns an Imac and i saw him play Crysis on minimal, regardless of the 15ish to 20 ish framerate. Im guessing of you're into scalable games such as HL2 or WOW the mac should do it.
