So I have a Dell Dimension E521 with an AMD Athlon 4400+ Dual Core Processor and2 gigs of RAM. I'm planning on upgrading the stock 305W PSU to a OCZ 500W. So what video card should I get that would fit inside the Dimension E521's case and doesn't consume more power than the 500W PSU could handle. I was thinking of getting a Radeon HD3850 but I read an OCZ 500W PSU would be insufficient.

my GTS250 runs perfectly with a 500W PSU, so dont go with the 9600GSO. depending on your budget, you can get the GTS250 or the ATI HD 4770, these two cards are quiet powerful and runnable with a 500W.

Does a 9800gt fit in a Dell Dimension E521. And I actually found another PSU rated at 650W, SLI ready and Crossfire Ready but by a lesser known brand. Are you sure a 4770 or GTS250 will run and fit in a Dell Dimension E521 with a 500w PSU.

Also will a 650W PSU be sufficient in running a 3850? If it doesn't I'll be surprised.

Will this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016&Tpk=OCZ%20500w "fit" into my Dell Dimension E521? And does it have the components my non modded Dimension E521 needs as well as the component for an ATI Radeon HD3850. I heard it needs an 8pin cable and I don't know if that PSU has one.

that PSU has a 6+2 PCIe which is same as an 8 pin so your good on that. and yes it should fit and hook up correctly aslong as your curent PSU is ATX and i know the OCZ is ATX it should fit.

dell has been know to have custom fitted parts that only work in their PCs or slimmer parts in their slim cases so only replacements from them will fit. i dont know about any specific dell models though just the companys known practices in general.

ATX- is a form factor used by a majority of PC manufacturers, PSUs, cases, motherboards are all made to size specifications of the ATX size, motherboards and cases can also come in mATX(micro ATX) being just smaller boards and smaller cases(tall wise) usually with less features and with a smaller price tag

my 3850 runs perfectly with my non brand 435w psu, your ocw 500w could easily handle a gtx 260/4870..

OMG. That's a pretty damn big chance :O just kidding ;) Also will this: Radeon HD3850 Pcie 512MB DDR3 2PORT Dvi fit into a Dell Dimension E521 case. The dimensions and stuff of the card can be found here http://www.amazon.com/Radeon-HD3850-512MB-2PORT-Retail/dp/B001R84BBI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261533778&sr=8-2 So yeah. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone told me.

The e520/e521 is a pretty big case. I doubt you'll have much trouble fiiting it in. also I forgot to mention this. Make sure your PSU has enough SATA connections so you can get power to all of your components (HDD Optical drive)

I really only have the basic stuff in my desktop so I'm sure there's enough components. But is there a way you or I could make sure that the 3850 would fit and it says 2Port so I don't know what that would mean :/ There's a lot of GPUs that won't fit in the e521's case though.

it says 2 port DVI, just means you have 2 DVI ports on the back of the card so you could use 2 monitors at the same time with it if you wanted to.

with the PSU yes it would, i looed at your case on dells website. its backwards everythign is backwards so i still dont know if that card will work ive never had a PC with theright panel being the one where you access the parts, im not sure of the video card goes upside down(opposite side up than on a left side case) or if there special made and aftermarket replacements wont fit. ive never had a dell in my life so maybe the guy who has thee520 can say for sure if it willwork or not.

Well I did read that a 8800GT would fit and that's pretty big. I also read that 4670 can fit and that it's faster and more efficient. So I ask you, will that run on a 500W PSU? :P There's noth the 512mb and 1gig models. So I don't know if more on board memory would affect the card's power consumption

Sorry for badgering you guys, I know you guys are probably facepalming and you probably will again (:P) when I ask if this PSU: Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2 Modular Active PFC Power Supply would fit into a Dimension E521. I like it better because it has more wattage, no rebate, still cheap, and from a more well known brand. And I'm pretty sure a 4670 would work on a 550W

But if it's an Antec 550W PSU $61 shipped vs OCZ 500W PSU ($60 shipped but has $25 rebate which I'm not sure is reliable or not) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016&cm_re=antec_550w-_-17-371-016-_-Product vs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016&Tpk=OCZ%20500w) Which would you choose? I'll be using a Radeon HD4670

I heard though that Dell makes their PCs so that you have to buy the PSUs from them. is that true? And would a Radeon HD4670 work on a Dell Dimension e521's Motherboard?

Dell will charge more but at least it's guaranteed to work with their systems so It's up to you but I wouldn't worry about it. Get it from newegg and in the .01% chance it doesn't work you can send it back

Ok guys last question (sorry :P). Is a 400w PSU with 30A on the 12V rail (80+ certified) better than a 550W PSU with 22A on the 12v rail rated at up to 85% efficiency? My specs: 2GB DDR2 memory, AMD Athlon 4400+ Dual Core Processor, and I'll be upgrading to a Sapphire Radeon HD4670 1GB DDR3.

And I have a Dell Dimension E521 case as I stated so I don't think I can use a Radeon HD4670 because the one I want has an 80mm fan D: and that's too big to fit in my case because it'll bump into my CPU.

Nah :p I'll just buy a lower profile card like a 9600GSO as one of the first posters mentioned.
