I'm really twitchy so installing the CPU and plugging in some of the headers (power, reset, usb, sound, etc) can be really annoying.

CPU and heatsink - just feels so goddamn fragile when you're doing it, even though I'm sure it can take more abuse than I dished out.

Troubleshooting, my first time building I had a bad CPU and it took a long time to narrow it down.

Picking parts when you have a limited budget is hardest IMO.

Fixing driver issues and any other kind of software problems always frustrated me the most.

The hardest part is choosing the CPU Intel or AMD. Also putting it all together can suck if your case is too small.

Installing all the software is by far the most time consuming. Researching to find the right parts is probably the hardest part or installing some heatsinks.

i would say plugging everything in without a removable motherboard tray. trying to get them connected while using the antec 902's cable management holes was pretty annoying, considering my power supply's cables were too short.

Most difficult thing for me in building my own computer was getting the money to buy the parts I wanted. Now my most difficult thing is dealing with BFG and their faulty GPU cards I have....they don't respond to emails I send and at times I get stuck on the phone for 30+ minutes on holding, hoping someone will answer my call. I'll try again tomorrow.....

This definetly, so hard to plug in those 8 or so really small cables at front/top of case. They really need to make a better system to make it easier.

Updating and finding all the drivers I need seems to be my biggest complaint. Mostly just a long winded process.

Cable management is by far the most annoying/hard part of building your own. That's what I think anyway, I like a nice clean looking case with great airflow potential and not a big mess of cables all over the place.

Well i'd probably have to say I spent the most time on cable management. But installing the processor was certainly nerve wrecking lol, holding that 280$ I7 between my fingers. Took a fair amount of pressure to lock down the arm too which made me a bit uncomfortable.

same for me. when it comes to that bit im always tripple checking the manual to make sure im getting all those little cables into the right pins on the mobo and there pretty fiddily which is annoying. its a shame mobo and case manufacturers cant some up with some sort of standard socket for those bits.

The old ones can take a lot but i'm not so sure about modern ones. You could throw a Pentium 1 across the room and it would still work perfectly. The hardest part were the heatsinks, both Intel's pushpins and Thermalright's torsion bars are a real pain.

The most difficult for me was actually putting the mobo in the case. The holes weren't lining up unless I applied a fair amount of pressure and I was worried I was about to snap it in two. That and plugging in all of my case fans. I had to attach most to my PSU so that was interesting to learn. Luckily everything booted up perfectly the first time and everything, OS and drivers, installed flawlessly. I was quite amazed considering the fact it was my first build ever.

Cable Management and installing all the case fans, it's not hard it's just annoying to have all the fans working except one because you missed a molex connector that was hiding among the other wires.

Also Overclocking, finding your sweet spot for voltages because every cpu is different. My Phenom II 955 for example will crash when pushed to 3.8ghz after a couple of hours when others can overclock to 4ghz,narrowing down faulty hardware is also difficult. I just so happen to get a bad stick out of my 4gb kit that caused random blue screens and crashes when gaming or surfing the net.

the power and reset cables in old motherboards you bought secondhand which don't come with a manual or any markings on the mobos so you just have to guess whereabouts they go. it's much easier on modern mobos as they're colour coded and pretty much idiot proof these days

AMD's stock CPU heatsink feels like you're putting about 10x as much force on it than the processor should be able to tolerate. Thats about the only thing that was difficult with my latest build.

For me, the most difficult aspect would be the software side of things. BIOS, OS, drivers, etc. Especially because I have to find all these drivers for several different components across the whole Internet, install them all, and probably reboot a lot along the way...and then hope it all works. Getting Windows Updates is also a huge time sink.

Exactly the same here. That little lever on the side didn't even feel like it needed to be closed, there was no way that thing was coming off if it was closed or not. But I eventually closed it, and I totally thought it was gonna break

I recently changed my CPU and so I had to put on the heatsink again. It took me about 5mins to get it on. In the end I had to use more force than I would have liked.
