What is the best strategy when buying-renting PC games at an affordable price?

Hi,

I live in Toronto, Canada and I'm wondeing if anyone has any tips on buying games at affordable prices. I went to Gamestop downtown a few days ago with used PC games and they told me that they did stopped buying used games this year. I then told them that I would no longer buy PC games from them....whats the point if I cant sell them back to them.

Whats the best strategies when buying?

1. Ebay

2. Specific store in Toronto?

3. I heard about internet sites where you can trade games with other?

4. I heard abour an internet site that sends you games by mail that you rent for a price?

5. Other?

Thanks in advance for the tips as buying full priced games is definetly out of the question.....

Ebay and Amazon are great sites when buying and selling online.

Bargain bin hunting is one of my favorite ways of finding games. Try going to game stores after holidays and you can usually find some great deals.

Flea markets and yard sales are also a great source for games (usually older games.)

Try to find a game store near you that is more focused to PC games. Gamestop is pretty much console-only or 95% console. Most game stores near me sell and buy used PC games but I'm not so sure how the situation is over there across the pond. Some say that less and less retail stores are dealing in PC games in NA...

i didnt know that gamestop bought used pc games....but i can see why they stopped...you buy the game, dl a crack or make an iso, then sell it back in 2 days cause u dont like it, as per their policy, and exchange for one of equal value....rinse and repeat...its not like console games where that doesnt work at all. but i think bargain bin or amazon are about the best

Total War series are not RTS (Real Time Strategy). it is called TBS (Turn Based Strategy)

in case you didnt know,

RTS: units move arounda all at the same time and players constantly need to act.

TBS: ont unit move at a time. player need to plan before act.

There is set of stores in the Toronto area called Cash Converters. They sell used goods. I found some gems there before and remember finding Age of Empires 2 a couple of months after it came out for $10! Their inventory, of course, is unpredictable and most new games aren't available.

I will also recommend Steam. They have weekend deals, most of which provide some great saving for awesome games. However, you can't re-sell.

My advise is to make a game wish list of games that you may potentially buy. If you want, add details/critic scores the list. It's good if you have a phone or organizer that can do this. That way, you'll have the information readily available if you come across that game in whatever store at a great price. And if you see a game that looks good for a fair price but need some research on it... hide it in another part of the store, do research on the title and go back the next day, given that's it's a good game. lol

Rome: Total War GOLD --- definitely get the Gold version (includes Barbarian Invasion + functionality improvement to the base game)

Steam sale was $2.49 but am fairly sure that sale is over.

I still usually prefer the Retail Box versions. You could go to www.gogamer.com but I would wait for it to go on sale (~$5+shipping).
