I think the longest has been about 4.5 years for me. I try to update both around the same time. How about you?

I went from a 386 25Mhz to a AMD 1600+ clocked at 1.2Mhz. One was made in the 80's and the other in early 2001 I think.

I had a 800mhz Celeron with 20GB HDD and 256MB RAM for around 6 years before I got my self a AMD Athlon 4400+ and 2x 512MB RAM with a 160GB HDD and a 6600GT... and ever since then I've been upgrading things yearly.

We had a Celeron 400MHz until I upgraded to a Athlon 4000+ in early 2007. So that was around 8 years. But I'm a little more regular now. Upgraded to a Phenom 2 X2 550 in early '09, and now I'm looking to upgrade that.

Graphics card are probably every 2-3 years.

If you had a celeron 400mhz, those were released in 1999. so doing the math... 2007-1999 .... that would make it 8 years not 15-20.

I've had my crappy Celeron 1.7Ghz from 2003 to 2009. And what a good riddance that was.

2.26ghz pentium 4 > q6700 2.67ghz, what a bump in core clocks eh? I had to use my brothers computer a lot between those time.

Ill hang on to this for another year. This one last me a heck a lot longer in terms of performance.

4.5 years sounds about right. I've had my Q6600 and GA-P35-DS3P since December 2007, and my 8800 GT since January 2008 (it got delayed due to high demand, and I had to find an alternate source, which I eventually did). It's getting near the point where an upgrade would actually be worth the money spent, but I haven't decided on whether I'll be going for Ivy Bridge/Kepler or Haswell/Maxwell quite yet. How quickly I can get the money together will probably be the biggest decision factor. ...Wait a minute, that's not the longest I've waited. From 2002 until the end of 2007 (about 5 years, though it sure felt longer), I was stuck with this crappy Compaq desktop my parents bought that just got crappier with age. Athlon XP 1800+, 512 MB DDR-266, and an integrated GeForce 2 GTS that was upgraded to a Radeon 9600 XT in 2003. Once games started running like slideshows on bare minimum settings or couldn't even run at all due to lack of SM 3.0, I couldn't take it anymore and built my own computer.

Ah yes, my mistake. I was thinking of the computer we had before the Celeron 400mhz.

I went from a 386 25Mhz to a AMD 1600+ clocked at 1.2Mhz. One was made in the 80's and the other in early 2001 I think.trasherhead

It's possible for a CPU from the 80s to fit into a motherboard made in 2001? Or do you mean you bought a whole new PC?

Wow, a hater hating for no needed reason at all. I am also shocked...

I'm no professional when it comes computer hardware. I had major doubts that it was possible at all, but since I have no idea what sockets any motherboard used prior to about 2006 (when I got into computer gaming), I was simply asking a question. For all I know motherboards from the 80s used the same CPU sockets as motherboards from early 2000. As stupid as it may sound to someone who's known these things for years, I honestly don't know myself. I didn't see any need to look up past hardware specifications when I started PC gaming.

Probably the longest was when I got the Creative Banshee 3dfx. It was one of the first video cards which combined 2d and 3d... before that you had to do some terrible link up between your 2d card with a 3d card like the voodoo. I used the Banshee 3dfx from 1998 to maybe late 2000 when I think I got another Voodoo card just before they stopped making them... I think it was the Voodoo 3000.

I still use my 3dfx banshee in my old DOS/WinME k6-400mhz PC i have... its about the only 3d card I have that is compatible to play the few DOS games that did use 3d. Carmageddon for example had a 3d exe file you could run 3d models in the game... as did Syndicate Wars (Syndicate 2).

I usually get a good CPU and a medium GFX card, I upgrade my GFX every 3-4 year and my CPU around 5-6 year. Last CPU was a P4 3.4 I think and I only changed it cause my system was just going in a boot - reboot cycle that I could not stop with out turning the power off at the switch but I was due a new card so I just did the whole thing - Had my new system coming on to 4 year and upgrade my Card before xmas as my psu died and killed my card.

I prefer to upgrade my GPU more often then CPU... I'll keep the same CPU until it starts to hinder gaming performance.

Erm....I used to upgrade annually, that was before my twins were born though now my hardware has to last longer and the itch has to wait till it's intolerable ;)
