Also, think of the German word 'unheimlich' which is the opposite of Heimlich ['homely'].
An environment that is no longer a home as it has been possessed or haunted can be called uncanny.
Penumbra series. I got to like 10 minutes into black plague (just after the first set of visions) and when i was supposed to hide in the shadows from whatever they are my adrenelene was pumping. It scared me too much:cry:
Have you played it? It has a much more serious and terrifying atmosphere than silent hill.. Besides, theres guns in silent hill. Not hard to "Survive" when you have almost unlimited ammo, and guns remove most of the fear because you can defend yourself.

meh the first was far betterdo you already played condemned 2 bloodshot? i watched it in youtube, tottally dissapointing, yes it has more scary scenes but not as good as the first, plus whats the deal with guns... too many weapons.

i know that may sound a bit dated but I remember the scares I had while playing the first Silent Hill on playstation. I was in my first highschool year, playing with a friend, closed windows, darkness in the room and loud volume...chills!
Man no doubt one n only F.E.A.R 1 its two expansion and F.E.A.R Project Origin(2). Man if you play it in the perfect environment. Please not in a semetry lol. I mean if you play with wide screen so that your eyes can only see the screen and nothing external, You got a headphone having full sound and dolby effect, and you are not using any cheats or trainers. Then play it and reply me if you are in a state to reply.

Why isn't it horror to you? well it isnt really scary.... Uncanny can be frightening. There is often an expectation for horror just to be how many times we can have a boo-scary moment.

Read my first post again about the Uncanny. Bioshock is frightening in a different way, not just because of the boo moments.

you should play condemned 2 bloodshot it's very super scary The first was scarier due to one reason, You felt like you were in real danger and with very little means of defending yourself. You had to rely on lead pipes and such against ongoing disturbing maniacs, if you didn't have a firearm or something like a plank or even a sign, you were pretty much helpless. in Condemned 2 however you aren't so helpless anymore, if you don't have a firearm or object then you always have your fists, granted it is scary but compared to the first the only time I felt remotely defenseless and truely scared was in the Cabin when you meet winne the poo.
