what kind of disc drive would i have to replace in a ps2?

i have my old ps2 and bored at home so i just want to replace the broken ps2 dvd rom in a ps2 does anyone have a tips on what type of speed i'm going to need and where i can locate a software driver for the dvd rom. just would like some tips or advice? no knocking jokes please. oh the disc drive spins and the laser does not move.

Even if you can replace the drive, Why bother? You can buy a used PS2 for cheaper or a new one for $129.

PS2 are a hundred dollars now, and it would be safer to go that route becasue you replace it, still might not work then your out $40 and you have to buy a new PS2, but if you still want to do it yourself then you can either call sony and they will might tell you or you can open the PS2 and on the DVD drive that is in the PS2 it will tell you what type it is and if it is a IDE.

Here's a link to PS2 parts.

I used to see them sell for $25-$40. This site wants $80!

I think that the PS2 is so old now that part aren't readily available like they used to be.
