I have used both windows 7 RTM and RC and a part from crysis all the game runs better or same as vista.Windows 7 actually a very fun and user friendly os than vista i will definitely buy windows 7.
Windows 7 no contest. Why bother waiting? It's free until March 2010 so you have nothing to lose by at least trying it. I've been using it for most of 2009 and would never consider going back to XP. With XP you are also limiting yourself to DX9 gaming. Your choice.

I'm using Vista 64 bit and it's been fine for everything I've tried.

I leave it on when I sleep which could be considered "Cheating" I guess, I have it on at the moment ;)
Win7. Just sign up to Technet, and you get the RTM final of Windows 7, which can be put on upto 10x PC's. Also you'll get such updates as the new MS Office later. XP has set sail on it's final voyage. Might as well wave it goodbye.
