I was just wondering what range of FPS most PC gamers consider to be playable. I know many people who play everyday on I was just wondering what range of FPS most PC gamers consider to be playable? I know many people who play everyday on less than 20 FPS, and don't mind too much, and I know others who want more than 60 FPS or they're not fully satisfied. For example, I play CSS and COD4 at 1600x1200 on max settings and get 100 FPS and 55 FPS on average, respectively. But occasionally I will play CSS on a different rig and get only 30-40 FPS, so my minimum range is the latter of the above. So what is your minimum range that you consider playable? And just as a side note for someone who is an avid console gamer as well: Halo 3 runs at 30 FPS, while COD4 (console version) runs at 60 FPS.

I think most people will say 30+. I've played a few games below 30 (20ish range) and it just doesn't work. 30 is fine, but any lower and it sucks imo.

Depends on the game. I have played games around 10 FPS before I built my own PC. It didn't bother me that much, it was still playable.

Yah I put up with 10-25 FPS tops for a few years, so it never really bothers me when my games run at that speed. I never have to deal with that anyway now that I have a 8800GT :)

Depends on the pace of the game (slow, medium, fast, .etc) and the genre.

I played all of Kotor 2 with 10-20 fps with my old 6200 it wasn't pretty but it was playable, but with a shooter I'd say 30 minimum

Depends on the game, some cope better than others, luckily Crysis is pretty playable at around 15-20fps.

depends on the game. rts for example 30 fps is more than fine. however, for fps and racing especially multiplayer should be 50+

I'm okay with 25, but I prefer it to be in the range of 30 to 40. Anything above that would be a nice bonus.

Depends on the game as probably other people have said. Some RTS are capped at 30fps so minimum playable on them would be around 15-20.

I do not want to die by having a violent seizure, so I will not usually play the game if it runs under 25 FPS.

20 is my minimum. Although i'm so used to playing Half Life 2 at 100FPS, whenever I put it on Vsync and it drops to 60FPS I find it unplayable xD

"Frames per second Gameplay
30 FPS very limited gameplay
30-40 FPS average yet very playable
40-60 FPS good gameplay
60 FPS best possible gameplay"

I vote for 30-40 FPS at least.

40-60 FPS for games without motion blur.

25-30 Games with motion blur.

A framerate Under 60 FPS is fine just as long as it's consistent.

If theres a game I can't run at a constant 55-60 range then I tend to lock it somewhere.

Usually at half the refresh rate, so for me that's 30FPS(60hz) or 37.5FPS(75hz).

I cant stand Large framerate drops.

20 frames and over. If it gets into the low teens it would have a noticeable lag.

normally i would say nothing below 30, but i did play the Crysis (demo) and i had it running at 15 and it felt more stable than when i lowered the setting and it ran at 60. I think the main reason was motion blur which kind of hid the choppiness (even though i never realized absolutly any choppiness). It was weird, but i noticed more choppiness (more like screen tearing) running at 60 than 15. That is the only game/demo that, that has ever happened to me. I have never seen a game "SEEM" to run better at lower frames, but mabye i wasnt paying attention to it while shooting off koreans faces :)

I've learned how to suffer through playing games with what could be considered "unplayable" framerates. I'd go as low as 10-15 in some cases, like with games like Crysis... but would prefer at least 30. Which is why I want to get a new computer.

Depends on the game/genre quite a lot...

Crysis for example is fine above 25FPS; but with a lot of other shooters I'd want 35FPS or more.

Strategy games are fine anywhere above 15FPS; but with racing games I need at least 30FPS.

I've found GTA IV to be pretty unplayable when the frame rate drops below 20, but once it goes over 25FPS it's usually OK.

Like alot of people have said, it depends on the game, but most of the time, anything below 20 becomes pretty much unplayable for me. Games which have motion blur (like crysis and HL:EP2) though can hide lower frame rates better.

A slow paced game such as Morrowind I've seen look very smooth with as little as 15FPS. A standard FPS such as CoD will be playable with as little as 25FPS. A fast paced game such as Unreal Tournament needs at least 40FPS.

The motion blur in HL2:Ep2 is not visible once you dip below 30.

Since i'm using a really old card, i rarely get anything more than 30-40. I maxed out CSS on an average of 75. I get an average of 20 on High-Very High settings for FarCry 2 and it wasn't too bad. I get about the same average for Crysis on Med-High settings. So i guess 20 is my lower limit. I rarely play a game if i have to put everything on the lowest setting, it loses it's appeal and i'd rather not play at all. If i can get 20+ average FPS on medium settings then i'm okay with it.

I could play WoW in the 10-15's. But that was really because of how far I could zoom out. I can play most current games now with my current rig.
